I would at least speak with the venue about this.  You signed the contract expecting one thing, and are receiving something different for a higher cost.  If they know that you’re upset, they may be willing to negotiate.  If not, I think you should contact other venues to see what your other options are.

@Flanders:  That really sucks.  Take a look at your contract – I think mine basically says the price cannot change once a deposit is paid, but menu options can change.  They may be willing to keep the old menu for you if you talk to them though.

Yeah, that’s really not on, I would’ve thought that normally the prices would be locked in as per the day you signed the contract.

@Flanders:  Check your contract first. Ours stated that we would get a final food price 60 days before the wedding. When I asked she said they tend to go up about 5% every year to adjust for rising food prices. I think this is fairly common but if the prices are listed as is in your contract with no note about them rising than you should complain.

We were told our price per head was locked in the minute we signed the contract.  So hopefully that’s the case for you as well!  You definitely should talk to them.

I need to take my own advice though, my venue just released their 2014 menu and the filet mignon is no longer listed under entrees-they moved it to “upgraded entrees” and since we planned on having it-I need to see if we can still get it without having to pay more.  🙁

EDIT-just read your last post.  You definitely should start looking into other venues.  The fact that after you spoke with them they basically said they can do what they want and change all the food and you can do nothing about it is really scary and sketchy tbh.  I’d start looking around at other places if you can!

Depending on your budget and how much you’re going to lose out on from these changes, I’d probably bail and take my buisness to someone who won’t do this.

As others have said, check your contract down to the letter. If there’s small print that says they can do this, then you’re without recourse.

If you decide to stay with them then I ould have the exact menu and price written out and signed by them ASAP.

@Flanders:  That is beyond ridiculous. If you’re not set on that venue I’d cut my losses and go. I know how tight my budget got as we got a month out and I know that if my caterer had up and changed on me at that point I’d have flipped.
