So Fiance and I have been discussing venues. We brought up a place where his best friends brother was married and had the cocktail hour/reception at. After some online investigating, it looks awesome, the menu rocks and I think we will be going to see it this weekend. My question is… Do you haggle?? Fiance and I want a winter wedding (actually we are aiming for 12/28/12) so the price should be a little less than “wedding season” right?? We are going to pay for most of it ourselves so we are trying to be careful with monies. There is one more place we are going to look at as well but this first place has some real potential.

There is nothing wrong with asking! The worst they can say is no, but if they say yes you’ll be super happy you asked!

You generally score better deals by not being in wedding season, but you’re also picking a really busy time for venues (holiday/new years parties). So that may work against you with both venues and catering.
But I agree with the previous poster, there’s nothing wrong with at least asking…

You always have a no unless you ask the question. I live by that. I don’t go anywhere, especially wedding related, that I don’t ask for a discount. You would be surprised at some of the places that have shot me a deal just because I asked.

DEFINATELY ASK! Depending on they type of venue, although they may have holiday parties they probably are fairly quiet and other types of events/markets may be down so they probably will appreciate your business! Especially being right after Christmas, i think most holding holiday parties will do it a week before xmas or after new years.
