I’ve done some searching (both online and on the boards here), and I am still at a loss. My FI and I are big foodies, and we would like to avoid the whole hotel/banquet hall catering option. However, many of the other places we looked at had pre-specified required caterers (which cost an arm and a leg). We also looked at restaurants we enjoy, but we will be expecting around 200-225 people, so the spacing won’t work.
I know many bees here have done a lot of research. Can anyone recommend a venue (reception only) in Chicago or any of the near suburbs that allows a caterer of your choice?
And for an extra challenge, we found out our church will be closed June-Nov2014 for renovations, so we are stuck with an Apr-May date if we want to get married in 2014. Most of the “popular” venues in Chicago (Salvage One, Catalyst Ranch, etc) are booked.

@CatyLady: Thanks for the bump 🙂

@LindyLu: it’s not what you’re looking for, but we’re going with Events at Independence Grove (in Libertyville). It’s a Catering by Michaels company, and the menu options they gave us takes up a good half a ream of paper!

prairie productions (where I got married – happy to take questions)
Pittsfield Building (my friend is just booking it now – its a new venue)
Room 1520 will take any caterer for an extra $500
I believe Danada house will take any for some extra amount of money that I dont know exactly (their website does not reflect this, but this is the information my friend got)
Edit: I just saw your people numbers and realized that neither of those venues will work for your numbers – however, i’m leaving it up just in case you change your guest list.

@LindyLu: Stan Mansion in Logan Square is BYOB and any caterer! We are expecting the same guest count and are looking for the same type of venue which seems to not exist in Chicago-ugh!

We had our engagement party at Lacuna Artist Lofts in Pilsen which let us bring in whatever we wanted. Except for the bar – we had to hire someone who carried insurance for the venue. We hired a local CSA to cater and brought in cupcakes from Molly’s. Definitely check them out!
