@HappilyEverAfter54: When we got engaged, I started calling around in July 2010 for a September/October 2011 wedding. It was all booked up or the church would be open but the venue wouldn't. We reevaluated, and just figured March was not a popular month and worked out for my spring break, so we went with it.
If you're committed to June, call around as much as possible and see what's available or what 'bump' lists you can get on if someone cancels. Also check Friday evenings or Sunday afternoons. And if you just can't swing June, check out less popular months (Nov-April) if you're open to it.
2012 is going to be a huge wedding year. I am worried that we may not get an official for the ceremony but it is still waaaayyy to early to call and book something yet.
I booked my wedding for June of this year over a year in advance and available dates where already limited. The original florist I wanted was booked and my photographer had limited availability. I am getting married in a popular wedding area so that probably explains everything but honestly I don't think its ever too early to start booking if you know what you want.
@MrsPinkPeony: They don't take bookings this early. I think you have to wait until 6 months out or something.
I haven't run into this *yet*, but I'm planning on it, so I'm trying to book everything NOW. I've got a venue, DJ and photog. Working on the florist, officiant and videog.
Hope I'm not missing anyone...

@sceeder: That sucks but at the same time you know it won't be booked for your date!
I contacted a place in December and they were booked for all of August 2012!!!
I need to get into serious planning mode.
Are you guys kidding me?! This is absolutely insanzy. I don't plan to get married until October 2012, but now I'm getting nervous.
This is why when we started looking at venues we didn't set a date. We said "we'd like May or June" and then they told us what was available. No one knows your date yet, did you ask them if theyre available on other weekends in June?
@DesireeAnne: It is kind of nutso but I know here, which isn't a popular wedding area by any means there are already "bride wars" going on with venues, etc. I know for a lot of cultures 2012 is super lucky/significant. So maybe that is it?
@arenyth: Haha we specifically wanted this date so we booked our venue in November just to secure it!
@sceeder: Bride Wars was a good movie. I just find it interesting because I know a lot of people who want to jump the gun and get married this year instead of waiting. I guess maybe 2012 could have a certain meaning to people, but I'm still in shock. Good luck to all you ladies. I guess I should start calling and seeing what venues say about booking way in advance.
We booked our venue before we even got engaged. We booked in Sept. of 10 and didn't get engaged until Nov. of 10. The venue was basically booked through Oct. of 11 and she was getting 2012 inquires. I'm actually trying to have all the big vendors booked by this June.
Well I have a photographer as of today! Were looking at the venue next Friday, June 9th has the upstairs venue avaiable but not the downstairs... so they're not even going to show it to us... haha awesome I can tell I'm going to just LOVE this place, they really aim to please.
I figured out which venue I wanted in early January and was absolutely shocked to find that 2 of my top 4 dates (including the number one - the 4 year anniversary of when we met) were already booked for end of May and early June 2012. I booked our date (my 2nd choice date) the day I found out the others were booked cause I felt we clearly couldn't wait any longer.
I also found out the day I booked my photographer I was his 3rd June 2012 saturday - CRAZY!
Happily Ever After... that's crazy! We are having a Jewish wedding so we need to do it on a Sunday and places are fairly free where we live (outside NYC).
If you really like a venue you might consider doing it on a Sunday during the day or something? Or if the date is more important to you then you could look around a little more.

I can understand! I called one photographer in December 2010 for our June 2012 wedding and they already booked our date! Crazy!
We booked our reception venue in November and our photographer in early January. The church won't be a big deal, because mine is rarely booked and his can easily be worked around. Plus, with my church, my uncle (who will be one of our officiants) is the head of it, so he is already holding it. The florist shouldn't be a problem and the cake shouldn't be a big deal. Our venue will do our catering.
My big thing I'm working on now is saving some money and working out :-). I'm hoping to start trying on dresses soon! I would love to have my dress ordered by June.
I'm getting married May 5, 2012 and I was originally looking at April 21st. It was already booked at several venues so we moved it to the 5th. It freaked me out so I got into planning high gear.
Now we have all of these things already booked
Photographer, ceremony venue, reception venue, ceremony musician, wedding planner, DJ, ceremony chair rental and the officiant.
Now I'm running into all of the rehearsal dinner locations being booked already!
This has me worried big time too -- we're looking at a June or early July wedding and just got engaged last week, and in the weeks before the engagement I did some serious venue and photographer hunting (those are the only two outside vendors we're hiring -- DIYing food, music, and our venue includes all the tables and tableware etc.) and narrowed it down. We're going out to see the venue on June 25th and are prepared to book that day, and I've been talking with my photographer and asked him to please let me know what dates he books up for next June/July between now and then. That way when we get to the venue, if we book it that day, we don't get home to find that our photog (who is seriously the ONLY photog either of us like in our area...Pittsburgh is full of crappy wedding photogs, jeez) is booked for that day. So far he only has 3 dates booked for next summer...let's hope there's not a rush of bookings in the next 2 weeks!
We are getting married June 23 2012. I knew June would be crazy. So the beginning of May I started emailing and calling. The first three I contacted tried to push me to a Friday night because they had nothing open Saturday until July. So when I found a place I liked I booked it. I am working on the photographer now because I want all my priorities booked quick before everything fills up!
Welcome to why my June 2013 venue will be nailed down before September...I live in FEAR of everything being booked.
I booked my venue almost 2 years in advance. When we went to visit in the summer of 2010, they were booked pretty solid for the summer of 2011. So, we booked for June 2012 and it was really a better decision for us anyways because we had more time to save money.
We (luckily) found a venue, but we did have to change our date. I had no idea that things were going to be filling up so fast!
We booked our reception venue in November, 2010 for our June 23rd, 2012 wedding. One advantage of this was that we locked in 2010 rates for 2012. Score! :-)
it's totally crazy. i booked in February and got the last saturday available at my venue next summer. makes me happy that we have a longer engagement because I wanted to be married this fall.
@mjm2012: yeah we originally wanted to get married 11/11/11 but only got engaged in February... NOTHING was avaiable.
We are getting married on a friday, haven't had any trouble booking anything so far.

Anyone else having the issue of your wedding date being booked already at tons of venues!? June 2012 seems pretty far off and I thought I had a pretty good head start but I've called 3 places and the venues booked for the 9th.... This is why we pushed it back from the 1st date we choose. =/
