I’m newbee. 🙂 Planning for October 2010, but don’t have a date set. We’re trying to find a venue we love, and we’ll set our final date depending on the venue’s availability. So I have two questions for you!
1. Any venue recommendations spring to mind? We’re looking at 200 guests, in October (so outdoors should be kept to a minimum in the likely event that it’s cold/rainy). We’d like to have the ceremony and the reception in the same place, and we want both to be very casual. I’d ideally like to have a couple of pinatas at the reception, to give you an idea of the formality level.
2. Does anyone have a bonkers Mother of the Groom? Any tips on managing her? To give a little context, the groom’s family is contributing exactly $0 to their only child’s wedding, but the MOG wants to be involved in every decision and goes from zero to hysterical in no time flat. For example, we’re going to end up nixing flowers if the budget gets too tight, and when she found that out, she fuhREAKed out, saying we can’t possibly have a wedding without flowers.
I’ve decided that the best approach is to try to keep any details at all from leaking out. If she doesn’t know, she can’t freak. She’s gracious enough that if she’s surprised by something on the big day, she’ll just roll with it and mutter about it later when she gets home. But if anyone has any other suggestions, I’d love to hear them! MOG is normally not so bonkers, but I guess weddings bring out the crazy.
