I am hoping to get married in 2014.
We are on a tight budget – 5 grand. ( without couting my dress) . My fiances dad is a chef and said he would do our wedding food for free- which is going to save us a hell of a lot of money however i cant seem to find any venues that let you bring in your own caterers, as most venues want you to use the caterers they have and perswade you to have one of their hoerrendously expesnive package deals. The type of wedding I would love is a barn wedding, or a marquee wedding. but trying to do it on a budget is looking doubtful.if anyone has any advice or knows of any venues where you are allowed to bring in your own caterers that would be helpful. x

@Mrstobe26: We are renting a large lodge (vaction rental) and bringing in our our caterers. Is there a friend / neighbor that has a large nice home with a yard that would work instead of a traditional type venue?
With you having a limited budget, you are SOOO lucky to have someone willing to gift this service to you. My food costs, are still really high.
I had this very same problem. So we opted to pay a little more and have the ceremony and reception at the same location. We did look intitally at bed and breakfasts, but there too they want to cater at least the food. I wish I had more to offer. But, most placed I went too, had a list of “caterers” that you could choose from.

Check with your local parks department. We rented a huge, beautiful lodge in the woods with a double fireplace and patio. It has a full kitchen so we can use it ourselves or hire a caterer. A friend did the same and rented a recreation building on the beach and her church members cooked for her. Because its just a building rental it was really cheap too!
