We learned the hard way, about not having price tags on gowns. My daughter paid $3500, for a gown that we later found out has a suggested retail of 2765. I got the lower quote from another local shop and New York Dresses, online. After we paid in full, I found at least 2 online reviews, about the salon’s inflated prices; and my daughter has a friend who actually bought a gown there and got $500 off their quoted price, because that was the number she got at another shop.

If you can find the designer, you definitely need to shop around and look at reviews, for this shop. I’m not saying they are all that way, just our experience. You may be able to get it for your budget of $1,000 there, or for even less elsewhere. Also, we’ve found that some shops charge high prices for alterations – a local seamstress quoted $50 to hem a bridesmaid’s gown, when the fancy salon where she bough it said $120.

Of course we bought 5 bridesmaids, 1 flower girl, the grandmother and mother of the brides gowns elsewhere, and we are not having my daughter’s wedding gown altered at that shop, either. For those sales, they’re going to lose more than the $735 they overcharged us, and I’ll write reviews after she picks it up.
