I’m looking to buy a preowned Vera Wang Gemma and received pictures of the dress from the seller. For brides who have or had the Vera Wang Gemma I was wondeirng if you can give me some insight on the dress. Her measurements are about 2 inches bigger than mine (waist and hip) and I was wondering if that can be easily altered? Also in her pictures of the dress it looks like there is fraying at the edges. I honestly cannot remember if that is normal when I tried on the dress in store. I know the edges are unfinished but I don’t remember the fraying. Can you ladies please let me know if the fraying is too much or absolutely normal? Thank you.

That’s definitely fraying, more than I personally would like. I hope you got a great deal on it, if you’re still paying top dollar I’d save my money and get another gown. However its your choice, I can’t comment on the alterations but I’m sure if you find a really good seamstress t should be okay. Good luck!

Yes, it’s quite bad fraying but I’m sure a seamstress could sort it out. It’s meant to be a raw edge anyway.

Thank you for your responses. I haven’t bought the dress yet. I was worried about the fraying too but I wasn’t 100% sure if that was normal. I wonder why the fraying was so bad and if it was caused by the cleaners. It’s such a shame. I can’t imagine what a seamstress can do about the fraying besides trimming it.
