Okay, so nobody responded to my sample sale request 4 months ago... either becauses brides are hesitant in giving out such precious information or have no idea on where these take place. So, I decided that I want to let all you brides in on my experience.
My cousin had the most beautiful and amazing Vera Wang gown. She told me that she bought it at a Vera Wang Sample Sale in NYC. Soooo, when I was looking for my dress, I called the Flagship Vera Wang store in NYC to ask about sample sales. To my pleasant surprise, they are very forthcoming on when/where the Sample Sales take place. I went to NYC and got to the Hotel where the sale was taking place at 8:30am.
While I had to wait 1.5-2 hrs in a very long line to get into the sale, I can say it was well worth it!!! I found the most perfect dress and paid $839.00 for it. Its the same dress that Fonzie (from Happy Day's) daughter wore at her wedding.
Nilah who is my seamstress in Drexel Hill is going to take care of the cleaning of the gown and alterations.
I can honestly say, it was such a good experience. If you decide to go down this route, here are my key suggestions.
1. Before going to the sample sale, try on gowns at a traditional store. It will give you an idea of what cuts flatter your body and what you want to target when you head into the sample sale.
2. Bring 3 people with you (No More and No Less!!) - One has to help you try on the dresses, one has to hold the dresses for you, and one has to pull the dresses from the racks.
3. Go straight to the couture section. Don't waste your time with the standard room. The dresses are not acceptable.
4. Make it an enjoyable experience. And yes, Vera Wang does accept credit cards at the sample sale.
