BenJerrysBride – just wanted to say Hi…and ILOVERMONT – I lived in Killington for years & my dream venue is Round Barn Farm in Waitsfield…or the Woodstock Inn but I don’t know if that would happen πŸ™‚

My sister did a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream cake last year. It was great! But coordinating keeping an ice cream cake frozen with a tented reception was a last minute panic. Also, it seems that the scoop shop is in charge of actually making the cakes and coordinating size, delivery, and the actual purchase. My sister didn’t have an easy time of it, but in the end it all worked out. So that’s one way to incorporate B&J’s.

We are getting really excited about our wedding. I’m in the process of setting up vendor meetings for early March when we are in town. I think our setting (gardens and back field at my family’s house) sets the stage for our Vermont wedding and using local vendors, featuring in-season local foods in our menu, and in-season flowers. We’re also reusing some of the decorations from my sister’s wedding. We’re not doing favors, but will donate to a Vermont charity instead.

My goal is to organize a couple of other events for our guests over the weekend like a family hike with the bride and groom, tennis and golf outings, and a series of barbeques complete with croquet, horseshoes, and archery contest. I’m hoping this will encourage guests to make a mini-holiday out of the trip (most of my family will be doing this anyway) and give us more opportunities to spend time with our guests. I want them to appreciate how great Vermont is or at least understand our connection to the place.

A little off topic but I just posted my dress for sale in the classified sections of weddingbee. I got married at the Round Barn in September of 2007 and I live in the area. I would love for a local bride to get as much joy out of it as I did! So if anyone knows of anybody that is looking for a beautiful Judd Waddell lace dress pass the word along!

Good luck in all your planning!!

RMC – Did you have a lot of OOT guests? That would be one of my worries about having it at the Round Barn, is that we would ALL be OOT’s so where to have everyone stay is something we would have to figure out. Do you mind if I ask how many guests you had?

No problem! We had about 180 I think. There were quite a few out of town quests. We had most of our quests stay at Clay Brook at Sugarbush. The Sugarbush Inn was shutdown for renovations so they let our guests stay at Clay Brook for the same price. It was a REALLY good deal πŸ™‚ There are also so many condos up there. Really there are a lot of options and a range of pricing. The Round Barn is truly an amazing place. We booked the whole inn and it made the whole weekend really personalized! I really recommend it! It felt like being at home πŸ™‚

@ BenJerrysBride – Yes, the will deliver when and where, but it seemed like the trip to deliver was out of the normal responsibilities of the scoop shop employee. I suppose it doesn’t hurt to ask, but I assumed delivery of the cake at 9 pm was not a possibility. Also, the cake came in 3 pieces and was assembled and decorated by the caterer. The cake itself comes without adornments (extra icing, piping, fondant, etc) so decorations are up to the bride and the caterer.

@ happilywaiting – Though our reception is only a couple of miles from OOT guests’ hotels, we are arranging a shuttle bus for our guests to get to our reception site, if for no other reason than to provide a majority of guests with a designated driver at the end of the night.

I’m doing pretty good – all the loose ends are starting to stress me out so we’ve got it all in list for and are chipping away as best we can.  For every one we/I get done, though, it feels like I add two more!  Eek!

We, of course, are hoping for fantastic weather for our outdoor Underhill wedding.  Weeks of rain like last summer would turn our property into a mess…. we are really hoping that doesn’t happen.

Our favors are homemade blueberry jam from our bushes on our property so we’re pretty good there.  πŸ™‚

Hey – what would you love to do for a bachelorette party if you have a say in it?  I don’t want the typical get wasted in Burlington with a dozen other bridal parties.  (sorry!)  I’m thinking something in the afternoon (but what??) and maybe a wine bar.  Don’t mind travelling to NH, NY, MA, or Montreal for an overnight.  Any ideas?

MorganB: Just noticed this post. I am from Underhill and getting married June 27. Is your reception at the State Park? We know of a wedding there that was spectacular.

If you don’t want to go so far for your alternative bachelorette, what about Boyden Farm Vineyard in Cambridge? They do tastings and have a cute upstairs private room as well as a lovely little stone patio.

Best of luck!

Crazy!  We live in Underhill too! πŸ™‚  No, actually, it’s at our house… and Boyden is literally 8 minutes down the road.

Hey ladies, how are everyone’s plans coming? What are you worried about? I’m nervous we’ll have another wet July like last summer, but I guess that’s completely out of my control anyway.

Any June brides have decorations they would be interested in selling post-wedding? I’m looking for Japanese lanterns in canteloupe, pink, and white and Mason jars for DIY centerpieces.

I’m thinking of attaching escort cards to little maple syrup nips. What do you think?

I’m getting married Saturday!!!  Wooohooo!  πŸ™‚  Of course, the weather as of yesterday, was looking iffy but you know how Vermont weather can be!  The last few months have been CRAZY…. I haven’t slept well twice in the past three days…  it’s been a lot of work, that’s for sure!  But we are excited and can’t wait for the big day.  πŸ™‚

Cantabrigian — I have lanterns in ivory but unfortunately, promised them to a fellow co-worker/bride with an August wedding date.  I’ll definitely have baskets if you are interested in that — most of them match.  I’ll take stock after the wedding and post what I have for sale.
