i came off birth control pills in June and I am currently ttc. I had a period right away then a 39 day cycle, period, 82 day cycle and now I am on my period and have been for 30 days. Yes a 30 day PERIOD!! I am going absolutely crazy! I called my Dr. last week and she said since my period isn’t heavy and I’m having no pain not to worry and that my body is still regulating from being on bcp for a decade. Please tell me I’m not the only one to ever experience this. Ttc is tough enough and this extremely long period isn’t helping.

@monique1218: That’s got to be tough! I don’t have advice but I just wanted to say that one time i had a 76 day period. It was ridiculous! It was only once and I wasn’t on birth control but the only thing that helped was birth control so I’m not sure what to say really. 🙁 Maybe if it’s still happening in a week, call again? I don’t know how long they expect you to bleed and not worry about it.. especially when you’re ttc.

I had a 60 day period and it was super heavy. (Due to age related wackiness) The doc tried progestrone, bcp and finally estrogen to get it to stop.
But if the doc isnt too worried, then follow their lead. However, if you are older, I would push more. This might be a sign of Peri-menopause.

I’m not sure I have any help to offer but I did have long periods early on (age 13,14) that would last 2-3 weeks. I would bleed, then it would stop for a week or two and it would start all over again. Mine were super heavy so I became severly anemic. I was put on BCP to deal with it, which was wonderful.
I was worried when I came off BCP that I would go back to those cycles but I got pregnant immediately after I stopped (I’m 29). I did have a seemingly normal cycle that first month (25-30 days, no breakthrough bleeding). But I was worried about coming off of it, I mean how can you get pregnant when you’re bleeding all the time? I even had a period (well I bled like a normal period) after I got pregnant. They just told me that your body can do crazy things when it goes off BCP because it doesn’t know what to do right away.
If your Dr. thinks its fine I would follow their lead. But I’d definitely call back within a week if it’s still going on.

After coming off birth control I had weird brownish red spotting for over 2 weeks. I considered it my period – my OBGYN said it was not because it wasnt enough for a tampon. Then i got a normal period 3 weeks later. The next month i had “spotting” again for 10 days but no real period until 18 days later. My OB said that it was just my progesterone and estrogen leveling out again and it takes a while for the birth control to get out of your system. I was on BCP for 8 years and went off in mid June and finally in October I didnt have any weird spotting – just a 45 day cycle.

this is normal. I had the same when i came off birth control after being on it for 10+ years. When i went back on it after having my daughter after the first pack i again had a month and a half long period. Its just the way our bodies deal with it i suppose

If it’s light and your doctor says it’s normal than I think you should go with that!
I just stopped taking the pill (around 5-6 months ago) and I am still getting straightened out. My cycles have been wonky and inititally I had some spotting during the month.

Have your thyroid checked out. I actually had this happen before and getting put back on Levothyroxine straightened it out.

Oh no, I hope your period stops soon. I’m on day 50 of my cycle post BC so I’m happy (in a not-so-happy way) that others have experienced really long cycles too. I know how frustrating it is when you’re TTC.

@ashleycan86: CD50? I would have bankrupted myself in pregnancy tests by then. I’m CD25 and have no idea how long to expect this cycle to be, although I suspect I ovulated around halloween. I hope you get AF (or a BFP) soon!

Well I went to the doctor after having my period for 41 days. She said I need to go back on birth control for 3 months to stop the bleeding and that I was having an annovulatory cycle. Then after 3 months I will stop and hopefully my cycles will be regulated and I will be ovulating. So no ttc for me for 3 months…major bummer.

@monique1218: Just saw this post. When I got off of bc late last February, I had my period for about 3 1/2 months! It totally sucked! They couldn’t figure anything out that was wrong though, so sorry I can’t be of any help there. I had lots of bloodwork done, ultrasounds, etc. but the only thing that solved it was time. I did eventually have to have laproscopic surgery (about 6 months after my period finally stopped) to remove a cyst and what ended up being stage IV endometriosis. They didn’t think that those things really had anything to do with the bleeding though.
On a positive note, I am now 27+ weeks pregnant, so hopefully for you after the 3 months you won’t have any issues.

@monique1218: That sucks! I had to be put on heavy-dose BCP to stop the bleeding as well (I think I had to take 3 pills for 3 days, 2 for 2 days and then continued on with them). Hopefully things look better after this!
