I went in for my second fitting to make sure all the alterations were done correctly. Turned out they missed something so a week to go, they need to get back to work. That caused me some stress but I stood there patiently while she pulled the dress in/pinned and cut out the previous sewing. All of a sudden I had this huge pain in my arm! Turns out she missed the dress entirely and stabbed/slashed my wrist with the scissors she was using to cut the stitching! It hurt soo badly and not only that, I looked down and now have LOTS of blood all over the front of my dress!!!

I am trying not to panic and I kept my cool and didn't lose it on the lady, even though I wanted to, but OMG I'm freaking out inside that my dress is ruined! Is blood really hard to get out? They had me take it off immediately to clean it but I'm so scared that a week before my wedding I'm now out a dress. She said she would call me as soon as they are done cleaning it and assured me it'll come out but I'm still worried.

Has anyone else had this happen? Did it come out? I need help calming down :(

    Thanks for listening!

wow that is extreme!!! I didnt even know that could happen, I always assumed the worst thing that could happen was a pin prick... Lets just pray that they will be able to clean it and alter it to your liking

Ohmygosh was a horror story!!  You're doing a great job staying calm - keep it up!!  If she said they can get it out I would imagine they can.... there are some amazing products out there and they know what they're doing!!  Keep us posted!

She said she would call me tonight to give me an update. I don't know how they clean it or anything she just kind of panicked and kept apologizing and scurried off with my dress. They made sure I was okay, which I am other than the massive bandage on my wrist. But if I don't hear from them in the next few hours I'll call back to check. I'm trying to keep myself busy but I'm freaking out. My poor FI was so concerned because I came home just bawling my eyes out. :(

@summerbride12: Wow holy shit!  I dont even know what to say about this one....   If I were you I would be ALL over them on this though, esp with your wedding around the corner.  Not to mention some sort of kick back money wise.  Idk if you spoke to them about a back up plan if the blood doesnt come out, but I think you should.  Your wedding is in 10 days right?

@bells: I know, I was prepared for the possible pinprick but she was trying to use the scissors to loosen a thread and then jerked backwards she hit my wrist when the scissors were open and they stabbed me. It's not a deep stab or anything, but cut pretty good hence the blood mess. (gross sorry!)

((HUGS)) Oh MY that's over the top!

I wouldn't worry SO much about her reaction as I found my seamstress to be pretty "stressed" over messing up Wedding Gowns.

Considering she took it off immediately there's a really good chance that it all came out. Blood DOES come out and is more of a matter of time than anything else.

Definitely let us know and I'm soo praying that she can get it out and that ALL gets worked out for you!

@HardyPooleParty: Yeah I'm praying it will come out but if it isn't good as new when she calls (and I will be going in to verify this) then I will have to find a back up plan. I'm trying to push that thought out of my head until I know for sure but I will definitely be requiring them to fix the problem if it doesn't come out.

@summerbride12: Happy thought!: You're getting married on my daughter's birthday!!!!!  She'll be five!!!!  (can you tell I LOVE your date? ;) )

Scrub up that cut really good!  and use LOTS of ointment on it so there won't be any chance of a scar (not sure how bad/deep it was, but even a cat scratch can scar...trust me on that one! LOL!)

Also, if treated immediatly, blood can come out of clothing.  (again, been there PLENTY of times, lol).  Just breathe deep and stay calm and don't forget that you can threaten them with a lawsuit ;)  (that's supposed to be a joke, and to hopefully make you smile!).

fingers crossed and so sorry you got hurt while trying on your gown!!! UGH!!!!  (maybe they'll do it for free since they injured you? ;) )

No blood but my dress had to be cleaned the week of my wedding and i didnt get it back until 2 days before my wedding! Its definitely stressful but put it this way if your dress is ruined demand the shop refund you your money and give you a sample dress of your choice and they will make it happen in time trust me the owner of the shop i got mine from told me if they didnt get the stains out of my dress they would do that for me but everything worked out great! Good luck!

If they got it off you right away and stuck it in cold water and all the other sorts of magical stain removers, I think they should be able to get it clean.

I'd be pretty upset about the stabbing! Did you need stiches or anything?

I don't know how you didn't take that scissors away from that woman and stab her with them. I would have been so freaking angry!! I really hope they get everything out and make sure you look perfect in it!

@hisgoosiegirl: Nope, no stitches thank goodness. It's not a horrible cut but it hit at a weird spot that just immediately started bleeding and I was so concerned with the pain that I didn't even realize it was on my dress until it had gotten all over it. Luckily it isn't smeared (sorry this is a gross subject at least to me lol) but just big drops all over ther front so I'm hoping that will make it a bit easier to get out.

@Zinzerena: lol thank you for trying to cheer me up, it definitely put a smile on my face :) And happy soon to be birthday to your Daughter!

I'm sure they won't have a problem getting it out, since it was immediately after.  So sorry this happened :(

Good on you for not losing it on the poor woman - I can't imagine how worried and guilty she must already feel!

I've gotten blood out of stuff myself with a little Oxy-Clean, and I'm sure a dress shop has much better products at its disposal.  At this point, I think you should just assume that it will come out (for your own sanity).

Also...I smell free alterations for you.  Did you perhaps spot an expensive accessory in the shop that you really like?  Shoes? Maybe someone's firstborn child?  Basically, an employee of the shop physically injured you and management will be VERY nervous.  If you have not done so already, you might want want to call/ meet with the manager of the shop (or the owner if the shop is not part of a chain) and formally complain.  You don't have to be mean, just politely say you need to make a complaint.  Then see what they offer you. If you don't like it, tell them what they NEED to offer you.  You sound like a really nice person, and it's OK to make it clear that you know it was an accident, and that you are seeking compensation for your pain/inconvenience as opposed to disciplinary action against the employee.

Good luck with everything...I'm crossing my fingers that you'll wind up with a perfect dress and some kind of amazing bonus!  You certainly have all that coming for your calm handling of the situation.

Oh my goodness! That's so terrible.  I'm sure it will be okay.  Blood definitely comes out of fabric and the sooner you treat the better.  So it's excellent that they got it off you to be cleaned immediately.  Let us know how it works out.

I hope they filled out an incident report to be filed with their insurance company.  They will NOT want to open a claim, and as previous posters have said.... they may just like to gift the alterations, or a nice pair of shoes.

Damn. That sucks. My seamstress accidentally stabbed herself with a pin and got some blood on my dress at my first fitting. It came out immediately with no visible residue when she used hydrogen peroxide. Your dress should be fine.

Wow, thanks so much for all the support and well wishes, I really appreciate it!

So an update. I went in this morning (barely slept at all!!) and am sooo relieved to find that all the stains came out. We were lucky that they were able to treat it right away but there is definitely nothing visible on the dress so I can finally breathe. My wrist still hurts this morning when I move it but I put a ton of polysporin on it and it seems to be getting better. Hopefully it won't scar.

And the manager was there this morning to apologize profusely about what happened and she's agreed to pay for all of the alterations so that was good. My wrist will definitely heal, and there's no longer any damage to the dress soI guess there is a happy ending :) Lesson learned, keep arms far away from the seamstress!

Thanks again to everyone for all your support and for helping me calm down yesterday!
