Hey everyone I’m Tina, brand new to the boards.
Before I get into my road-block, let me introduce myself.
I just got engaged at the end of September to my bf, we’ve had a long road.
He wants a summer wedding, i want fall….i told him if he wanted to do it that soon it would have to be the 4th of July(my parents anniversary, my mom has been passed for a little over 5yrs now).
My major road block for our wedding is that I am a larger plus size lady, and unsure of where to find a dress. I tried on 2 dresses at david’s bridal neither were what i want nor fit. and my options are very limited. by dress standards I’m probably a size 30-32.
I don’t really wear dresses. but want to be like every other bride and be able to find the gown of my dreams.
The whole not-normal bride thing based on size has me frustraded, and seeing other brides in the stores with their moms just leaves me sad and almost not wanting to make the fuss of having the wedding of my dreams.
Any suggestions on what to do about a dress?

@motleyangel: Some stores are willing to order a dress in your size if it can be made so you can try it. I’d call around and ask. I’d also look into having one custom made. Once you determine what style you like or find a dress you love, have it made or replicated in your size. It’s risky because you can’t try it on first, but it’s an option. What sort of budget are you looking at for the dress?

under $1000 is my budget i know it’s not much to work with.
I really love Melissa Sweet’s dresses but they don’t make them in my size.

@motleyangel: Welcome to the bee! I feel your pain, when I first started looking for dresses I was a street size 28/30 bottom and a 24/26ish top. I chronicled my journey here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/the-diva-sized-dress-search-review
What is your body shape like? I think that is way more important than just size in finding the right dress. With your budget I would highly recommend Mori Lee, and Alfred Angelo they had beautiful plus-size friendly gowns that were affordable and of nice quality. Better selection IMO than David’s where I had a tough time trying on as well. Now, my tips:
Wear comfortable but shaping undergarments. Keep an open mind and positive attitude. Most dresses are not going to fit you off the rack at all and that’s OK! If you get frustrated take a break or try another day. Bring a supportive but SMALL group. And don’t settle – you do not have to buy the first aline empire waist dress you see just because that is what a consultant shows you. Good Luck and PM me anytime!

I’ve seen several posts from plus size brides recommending Alfred Angelo styles. They say that their stores carry plus size dresses in stock.

Oh! There are some Alfred dresses in this thread including the dress I chose. I was about a 24 here but heavier on the bottom. You can do this girl! http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/finale-the-diva-sized-dress-search-review#axzz2h0Mw3apH

Thanks Ladies 🙂 :), I go in for my appt at David’s on thursday we will see how it goes. I know there is an alfred angelo not too far by, maybe i’ll meet with my girls early and go check it out before my appt. I’ll have my girls take photos if they can sneak it.
I too am larger on the bottom half of me. I consider myself a very awkward pear shape. Since losing a lot of weight since high school my weight has shifted around a bunch. I got A LOT of booty(my fiance loves it hahaha it makes pants and dress shopping hard though) and i stick out tummy wise in the front a bit but from my mid section upward is pretty average. i usually wear a 3 or 4 in torrid sizes(so about anywhere from 22/24 to 26/28) for shirts.
