The really sad part is that pertussis vaccine can be safely given to pregnant women. If this young woman had been vaccinated during her pregnancy, she likely never would have contracted pertiussis and passed it on to her baby.

What a heartbreaking story! She was such a beautiful little girl…and I just can’t imagine the kind of pain her young parents must have gone through watching their LO and feeling helpless. 🙁 This is a good reminder to ask about vaccinations as an expectant mom or someone hoping to be expecting soon. Thank you for sharing.

A few people posted it on facebook, I cried 🙁
But Julies is right, the vacination is available to pregnant women. I got mine the other day, my Darling Husband is getting his tomorrow and my parents also already got theirs. I mean, it is an airborne illness so you can’t prevent it other than getting vaccinated. The unborn baby also has immunity from the shot the mother gets as well.

So sad. I can’t believe I made it through the whole thing. Heartbreaking.

What a sad story 🙁
However, I don’t think the petition makes much sense… All the time, money, and energy going to notify people of a possible epidemic (if I understand the pentition correctly) could go to ACTUAL help, which in this case are vaccinations and vaccination awareness.

Super sad story. It seems like twitter or text message updates would actually be even better than a postcard.

How sad! Such a tragedy that could have been easily prevented 🙁
I wonder what type of prenatal care this woman was receiving and why her doctor did not know to give her the shot. My doctor gave it to me as soon as I said that I wanted to start trying. Darling Husband will also get the shot before the baby is born.

I was given a shot during my pregnancy for this as well. Im not too sure what kind of care this girl was given but my doctor was very up front about things like this and did not make light of anything.

So sad yet so easily preventable. All the mother had to do was get vaccinated during her pregnancy and her little girl would probably stil be with her. Why her doctors waited is beyond me!
