Will the reception be at the same place the ceremony is?

Have you looked into having it at a restaurant?

Ours is a little bit bigger – I think we will have 18-20 guests.  While the ceremony will be more traditional (dress, aisle etc)  We are leaving some of the *traditional* elements out of the reception, like cake cutting (having petit fours), bouquet toss, 1st dance etc.

What we are going to do instead for our reception is have some sort of food (not sure… may be buffet, but leaning toward heavy apps) an open bar and then set up board games (my family is HUGE poker, apples to apples, scrabble etc).  There will also be music so when the YMCA or Chicken dance comes on there will be an area for those who want to dance to go (like me!!!!).  But with it being so small and just family it seemed awkward to try and do *traditional* DJ/dance type of reception.

We kicked around photo booth, but it seems silly to pay an additional $500-$700 for this…. instead I am going to have a conversation with the photographer that we are interested in more candid shots at the reception of people interacting, playing games, letting them “pose” themselves funny (the same way they would in a photo booth, just no booth).  I’m hoping that works.

I am interested to see what others in this case are doing…. because I would love some more ideas!
