Vintage candy centerpiece

FloretCadet's awesome candy centerpiece got me thinking of different options FH and I could try. I like the idea of a vase filled with candy and flowers, but was trying to figure out how to put a vintage twist on it. I started researching candy brands that were popular in the 40s and 50s that are still available today (and aren't gross). So far, I've come up with Dubble Bubble (invented in 1928) and Toostie Rolls (the mini ones are so cute). If flowers are in our budget, we could add them, though mini apothecary jars (if they exist) or just vintage candy bowls (which are a dime a dozen at thrift stores) might work, too.

What do you think of the idea? What other kinds of candy could we do, aside from the two I mentioned? Dubble Bubble and Tootsie Rolls are both really inexpensive, so it might be a better alternative than collecting a buttload of vintage tins (my original idea) and arranging them, possibly with flowers. (We could put the few tins I already bought on the guestbook table or something, so it wouldn't be a waste.) The wheels are turning again, lol!

Oddly enough, Hershey Kisses were invented in 1907. NECCO wafers (if you like them) were invented in 1912 (also Life Savers were invented that year too).

Thanks for the link! :) NECCO wafers are kind of gross, but maybe that'll keep people from eating up ALL of our centerpieces, haha. Kisses might be a good idea, too, though I'm looking more for candy with an obvious vintage look.

Although Necco wafers are gross tasting (IMO), that would create a really awesome look.  Especially if you decided to use pastel colors for your flowers.

@LindsayB: They would look pretty awesome, but I'm trying to stay away from pastels as much as possible since it's a fall wedding. Then again, they're cheap, so we could always try it and see how it looks.

Ohhh...Good idea staying away from the pastels in fall.  I'm sure there could be some way you could make it work though!  Cheap, yucky candy = centerpieces are affordable and stay intact!  Hahaha

I forgot to ask, are you wanting to stay on the cheaper side? Because there is always Sees Candy. Their wrappers look vintage (especially the lollipops/little pops).

@shastahun: Definitely, if possible--we have a tiny, tiny budget. I mean, I have an extra $1k in savings that probably won't get used for anything, just hoarded, but I would prefer not to dip into that if possible. :) Also, See's candies are ADORABLE!
