Back for more advice from you ladies.. but seriously you guys are the best! We just booked a photographer and scheduled our e-pics for October 9th in PA. The foliage should be amazing, so let's hope for good weather. Our photographer lives in a city near a college, which she suggested, and also near a little older downtown area. I still haven't totally nailed down a theme, but we are thinking vintage elegant with a little broader terms.. anywhere from 1920's art deco to 1960's Mad Men. (Yes I know I shoul narrow this down a bit!) Our ceremony and reception venue is an old historic hotel with 1920's charm so I think it will fit perfectly.

Anyway, the photographer suggested we go to the local college to get some lovely outdoor shots, which sounds great. We have 2 hours and as many clothing changes as we want. I'm from out of town and haven't even met her yet, but this is why I already LOVE my photographer: after I told her about our vintage theme, she offered for us to start and take pictures at her home! First, I was kinda like uhhh that's weird.. but she sent over pics of her home, and wow! http://www.armenphotography.com/index-slides.html?gallery=house I can see some really cool shots on that staircase. She then told us we could move around downtown anywhere we want and she will start thinking of ideas.

Anyways, do you think it would be too much to try and fit in house shots, college shots, and downtown shots in 2 hours? Everywhere is super close (like less than 5 minutes by car in either direction). And we need ideas of what to wear! I was thinking one outfit change would be good, and maybe one casual and one dressier. It should be easy for me to find vintage looking outfits (I've already been checking out modcloth) but FI will be a little more difficult. He has a limited wardrobe consisting of jeans and tees, and work clothes and suits. He is also super against wearing jeans in the pics, which I kinda want for the casual ones (I thought at the college, more outdoorsy pics). So first, I need wardrobe ideas! Any input would be awesome!

Next, I need some more general ideas. If we are walking around town, what kind of places should we stop to take pics by? Should we bring any props (or is that corny?) I did see the cutest pic ever on a blog of the two people sharing an old Coca Cola bottle with straws that we could try and do. There is also an old state theater downtown I'd like to get some shots in front of.

So ladies - post away! Let me see your vintage e-pic ideas (and pictures would be great too!)

I love the glass bottle of Coca Cola idea! Or an old ice cream shop would be cute, sharing an ice cream sundae? I've seen cute ones where the couple is holding big balloons too. Are there any fairs going on near you with old-timey rides?

My fiance is a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy as well. He wanted to wear pants and a dress shirt. I wanted him to look a little more vintage for the photos, you know what I mean? So he wore a modern fit lavender dress shirt he already owned that he bought at Express for around $30. He also picked up a pair of grey pants from The Gap. They are a slim cut without being skinny pants. He is not a skinny guy, so he cannot pull off skinny pants. ;) We got a thin purple tie on clearance for $5 at The Gap as well. Finally, we picked up some black suspenders at H&M for $9 and he wore black shoes he's owned for ages.

Below are some pics highlighting FI's wardrobe choices for that portion of the shoot. Good luck!

First, of all I love your ideas! Maybe cause great minds think alike! I am doing the same kind of pictures (vintage picnic) for our engagement. I love using props and they make some great pictures. Lucky for us my grandmother saved newspapers and we have one with the headline “Man walks on the moon”.  I thought it would be cute for us to look like we are reading it. Also, if you have a record player, records or old camera that would be cool to use. Go check out your local thrift stores I am sure you will be able to find lots of things.

A great place on etsy you may want to try for your outfit is http://www.etsy.com/people/BellesWhistlesThrift?ref=ls_profile

For his white tee jeans loafers, or dress pants, white button up shirt, and suspenders

    Hope that helps!

Also, you may want to browse Boden USA to check out some pants options for your guy. Free shipping, free returns. If he is not a shopper, you can have a number of pants delivered to your home where he can try them on. Then you can return (in the same box) whatever he doesn't like for free. They have jeans options that are nice, dressy looking jeans without looking like frumpy jeans. It might be the best of both worlds for you.

We wore jeans in the second set of our pictures. FI got his jeans at Macy's. They are Lucky Brand and they were on sale (one day sales at Macy's totally rock!) for $45. I believe that's 1/2 price. I think they looked nice and were casual without looking frumpy. Pictures below. I hope this helps your FI to get on board.

@gholmes2b: Thank you! I also love your ideas for props. :) I may be biased but whatever. Hehe.

A great place to shop for props besides flea markets, believe it or not, is TJ Maxx/Marshall's/Home Goods. I got the white dresser with drawers there for $35. I will re-use it in the wedding to hold programs at our ceremony spot. Flowers make a great prop for a punch of color. Other items were random things we had lying around as well as flea market finds. The blanket was sewn by my future MIL.

gholmes, I love the newspaper idea! I think that will be amazingly cute. What a unique idea, and very authentic if you are going for an old timey feel.

@7SEVENJ9:Ooh a fair is a great idea, I'll have to look into that!

@canadianbacon: I love your pictures!!! I'll have to show FI tonight... that seems like something he could pull off without thinking he looks ridiculous. And yes, I'm going to have to shop for him but it's impossible to find pants that fit him. He has a tiny waist and really huge thighs and butt.. haha, I blame it on his college athlete days and too many squats at the gym! But maybe I'll try that site you mentioned and order a bunch and see if we get lucky! Also I looove your outfit! And that's basically what I was thinking too, some dressy pics and some more casual jean pics.

@gholmes2b: Great idea with the newspapers! One of my BMs was remodeling her house and took up the flooring in a closet and found tons of old papers, I should ask her if I can use some.

@Nicoley1985: Just remember that you can get *anything* tailored to fit. Just like a wedding dress, fit the largest part of his body and anything else can be taken in. Perhaps he needs a pair of pants that is roomy in the leg and seat. You can always get the waist tapered and taken in. You can even make higher rise pants into a lower rise pant. I wouldn't worry too much about the fit because for about $20, you can make those pants fit however you want!

FI will look great no matter what. I hope you get the results you're going for.

Ahhh, I wish I had my pics for you.  We did them a couple of weeks ago, but won't receive them for a couple months.  We did 3 outfit changes, but we had a longer day.  For our vintage pics, we did them in front of an old firehouse (same one as the link below) in the city that was REALLY cool.  I wore a cool semi-vintage outfit... it had the shape of vintage and I brought a little cute purse and tied a little scarf on it (accessories are great props in general).  Also, bring some red lipstick and you can really punch it up quickly.  I also pulled a little of my hair back on one side and put in a red flower.  My FI wore his fire jacket, it was such a cool shoot.

I've seen a couple sharing a bottle of "Crush" (so cute!).  Here is our vintage engagement that inspired us, perhaps this will help:

You can use it for ideas for your FI's outfit, too.

We wanted a vintage feel without being a specific period

we shared the coke bottle with the cute straws :)

I would try and keep it to two locations in two hours if you get rushed it will show in the pictures and you will need travel time and wardrobe changing time

Here are a couple of our Vintage-y pics not from any era but yeah 1920's-1960's inspired

@RR: Those inspiration pics are awesome! Can't wait to see how yours turned out.

@unixfairy: I LOOOVE your colorful outfit!! It really stands out.

So I was thinking of getting this dress for myself.. and my only heisitation after seeing unixfairy's amazing bright dress is that this one will be a little blah. I would jazz it up with some red heels. But do you think it's too dark and boring for a fall engagement shoot? I thought it was really cute and vintage. They have another color, but it's green and doesn't seem like it'd be too flattering.

There's also this one I was eyeing, but I wish it had polka dots!

Any thoughts? Or should I be going in a different direction?

We went slightly vintage (40's/50s) and those are the outfits I chose. The purple dress was from Stop Staring Clothing, and the green one was from Anthropologie. One more of the green:

@aprose: Your comment pushed me over the edge and I bought it! Red accessories will make it pop!

@gholmes2b: Those are amazing! The one is where I found the coke bottle idea.

@baliahi1029: Wow, great pictures! Both dresses are gorgeous. I'm definitely liking the suspender look, I'll have to bring it up to FI and see what he thinks.

@Nicoley1985: The black and white dress would be amazing with a RED belt and red heels, possibly red flower in your hair!  I had a red belt for my outfit... but my FI dropped it/forgot it at home when he grabbed our stuff! :/
