Hi, first post.
I am having a vintagy picnic wedding next May. We are going to rent vintage plates but the food will be served buffet style. I don’t want people juggling more than one plate, so how would be best to serve the salad. We are going with paper plates for the kids and not having a seating chart. One option is to have the salads preplated on the tables but since there is no seating chart it might be hard to figure out how many to plate for each table. Another option would be to have people just put the salad on the main plate and then not have a salad plate at all. Any other ideas out there?

Maybe have small salad bowls they could use? Or put the salad out in large servings on the table and people can get their own salad once they sit down?

rabidgirl: I’m having vintage plates, but I’m also having them wheel around someone to serve salad at the table before the buffet starts.

Pre-plate the salads on the tables and make up a chart where guests are assigned to a specific table but not to any specific chair. That will also help it not become a free-for-all when it’s time to visit the buffet because you can call equal groups of people by table.
