I think that I’ve decided that instead of having a dress with sleeves, which was my original plan, that I’d be fine with having a dress that has thicker straps. I think this will still be a flattering style, even considering I have droopy arms due to weight loss. It also helps that this seems to be more “free” sized, meaning fluctuations in my weight might not be as important and hopefully if I need alterations, it’ll mostly be in the bust area because that’s where it’s most fitted.
My main question is… what do you think the chances are of lightinthebox.com being able to make this dress at least somewhat similarly as shown. I was thinking that based on this design, things that go in my favor are:
1) It’s chiffon. So far from what I’ve seen, the Chinese dressmakers seem to do a fairly good job with chiffon as opposed to other fabrics.
2) It’s fairly free-fitting. Because of this, I feel like maybe the boning, thickness of the material, and fit of the dress throughout the bodice will be less important, making it more forgiving.
3) Because it has a vintage style, it might be easier to make it look right than a highly structured modern wedding dress where the style of the appliques/lace/beading make a huge difference of it looking couture vs. hokey.
So, any advice here? Would you chance it with this dress? I’ve heard mixed reviews for Lightinthebox.com, but the price is right and even after doing a Google image search, I haven’t been able to track down if there was an original designer dress that this is based off of, or if it’s even still in production.
Any thoughts or advice are greatly appreciated!

I ordered my dress from lightinthebox and it’s really beautiful (pic attached). It’s very, very well made and the material is lovely and extremely good quality. No one would ever know I spent less than $250 on it. I sent them my specific measurements, which I would highly recommend, and it fits perfectly everywhere except the bust which will need a few tweaks. I’m going to take it to a seamstress that specializes in formal and wedding gowns that’s located in the area. All totaled it’s going to cost wayyyyyy less than buying at a shop.
I’m 44 and getting married for the first time and didn’t want to spend the time or money to impress anyone with our wedding or go through all the stress. We’re eloping in 2 months and it will be only the two of us at a beautiful spot in Virginia that we both love. The entire thing will cost only about $2000 including dress, accessories, bouquet and boutoinnere, wedding bands, photographer, celebrant, and lodging at a wonderful B&B. It took one week to plan. Now we’re just sitting back and waiting for the date to arrive. 🙂
I think the dress you’ve chosen is beautiful and if you’ve fallen in love with it and it makes you happy I say you should get it. 🙂
