She would not have asked if she wasn’t willing to pay for it.

No one offers to buy a Vitamix if they aren’t willing to pay the price. If you know the name, you know it’s a pricey blender. I think you should just put the one you want on the registry and leave it at that. You don’t have to comment on the price.

If someone has offered to buy you a Vitamix, $50 is not going to be a make or break issue. She was probably just confused because you had three different models listed. I agree with the PP — tell her the one on the registry is the one you want. And maybe take her out for a nice brunch or dinner to thank her.

Shkragoldfish:  Is she a really close friend? Maybe you could suggest she could give a gift cert for $550 at the place you have the $100 gift cert., then you can go and get it later? This way you get the model you want, and a new one instead of a refurbished one, at that. She gets it at the price range you originally intended it to be.

Because if you go with telling her to get the cheaper model, then exchange it after the fact, and she sees a different model in your house someday, is she going to have her feelings hurt?

ETA: If it were me and I was dropping that amount of money on my friend, it would make me happy to know that I got her the one she wanted.

Or, if you think that she would be offended by you offering the $100 gift cert to make up the difference, do as PP’s said and just tell her the model that you want. She could buy it new or wait for the refurb’d ones to be restocked.

Shkragoldfish:  Maybe you could give her the choice – since she asked where else it was sold – “It’s model #x (refurb) at this store, we don’t mind if you want to wait for model #x to be restocked there. Or, it’s model #y at other store name, and I got a free coupon code for $100 off we won which you can use!” You could say something like you don’t need anything at ‘other store’ since you registered elsewhere so you wouldn’t need the gift cert . . . I don’t know if that is realistic or not – I know if I said that for a store like Target, my friends would know something was up 🙂

emstar168:  Yep this.  She must be close to you to be dropping that kind of cash so I’m sure she will appreciate you being honest and telling her that it’s more expensive than you originally intended if she goes for the new one so she should use your gift voucher you won.
