If Ketel One is too pricey, try Absolut, Skyy, or Smirnoff.
But maybe bring in a bottle or two of Ketel for people who drink vodka martinis?
I would use Svedka- depending where you live it runs 19.99 for 1.75 and it's the same company as Absolut. I love Ketel One but it can be pricey...so I use the Svedka as a back up
If Kettle is out of the budget I assume so is Grey Goose. I think Sky and Stoli are excellENT, cheaper vodkas. They're both even smooth enough for shots.
I think Skyy is reasonable, but I also think Ketel One is too.lol Hey, one thing I can't skimp on is my liquor! lol Have you priced Three Olives vodka or Ciroc? They may be out of the price range too.. ok, if you HAVE to go lower, you absolutely cannot go any lower than Smirnoff. Good luck!
Svedka, Sobieski, and Smirnoff are good vodkas at a cheaper price. Stolichnaya is still on the higher end, close to Ketel One.
I get Skky when Ketel is too expensive. I'm a vodka soda girl and I can barely tell the difference. I think it's about $10 cheaper at Costco.
I've always seen the price on Stoli cheaper than or about the same as Smirnoff.
@veganglam - Where do you buy your vodka? Everywhere I go, Stolis is more expensive than Smirnoff. If I could get Stoli for cheaper I would buy it more often because I prefer it over Smirnoff.
hahaha i love that Vodka is in the food board!!!
Also i vote for stoli- esp for flavored vodka. the rasp stoli lemon drop is my go to drink!
So would we say Smirinoff is better or worse than Absolut?
I would say Absolut is better but I noticed Smirinoff recommended more here. In reality, I always get distracted by the Absolut flavors and never buy the regular so I can't say I've ever tried to compare them straight up.
I really enjoy Three Olives. We used to be Skky lovers, but we noticed Three Olives (the big bottle) was cheaper than Skky one time so we went with that one and we've been hooked on it ever since.
Skyy is good, but Absolut is my favorite. I really don't like Smirnoff (it's too college-y for me and makes it icky next day) but I'll drink it mixed in something! I prefer single liquor/single mixer drinks which is probably why i like absolut.
Can you get it at Sam's Club? It's much cheaper!
HALT THE PRESSES.... this is important stuff here. I recently learned that the Kirkland vodka from Costco (clear, square bottle) is bottled by Belvedere.Yea, seriously.
I had always been too afraid to try a giant bottle of something new that I might not like, but I have now served it to total vodka snobs, and they swear it's the real deal.
We will be using it in our signature drink at the wedding, too!
god, i hate smirnoff vodka! at least the regular red bottle. My vote is anything but that.
@libra - YES - that Costco vodka is quite good. It's about 30 bucks for a GIANT ONE. It's almost novelty sized, haha. We'll have it for a while, but it totally works for the folks that like to drink Grey Goose +
I forgot about Absolut and say it's comparable with Skyy, but Absolut has tons of flavors that I love!
If you like grey goose- there is a vodka called V that is the same thing. I worked in a high end liquor/wine store in CT and most people can't afford to be paying 60 bucks for a mag of grey goose- Everyone has good suggestions Stoli is actually really good- their flavors are spot on.
We love a smaller brand called Tito's Homemade Vodka. Although I suppose you might want a slightly fancier name for a fancy wedding.

Don't laugh...it's really good, reasonably priced, drinkable straight, and has indie cred!
I'm blown away at the amount of people who like Smirnoff. That's pretty much the only vodka I won't drink (and my friends/family too). We are not vodka snobs-I'll drink Absolut, GG, Stoli, really anything..but Smirnoff in my opinion is just gross! It's cheaper for a reason in my opinion. I would go with Absolut. It's mid-priced and great in mixed drinks or on the rocks. Plus, there are lots of yummy flavors!
I say Absolut or Stoli. Svedka is my least favorite vodka, but it is certainly cheaper than Ketel.
I was a Belvedere/GG snob until I tried Costco's Kirkland Vodka OMG AMAZING!!! I get it for about $28 for 1.75L. BY FAR the best deal you will EVER get.
Svedka=Absolut same thing. A lot of the companies make cheaper versions of their better selling names but not a lot of people know that. They do the same thing with wines. A lot of the blends are made with the cabs that cost 100+ a bottle
STOLI all the way but I have had the Kirkland brand vodka and it was awesome. I can't believe anybody would purposely suggest absolut or smirnoff. Nasty. That's like suggesting to go drink some Jose Cuervo Tequila gross.
Ha a couple of years ago the New York Times did a blind vodka taste test, and the moderator threw Smirnoff in as a joke. Then IT WON. Now I point that out every time I pull out the Smirnoff at our house to pretend that's why we use it, not because it's cheap :)
libra5979, that's a great tip!
Smirnoff set up that contest lol, I remember reading about that. That's some bad hangover vodka. Tito's is awesome vodka! Bong (haha yes) is really smooth too.
I third the costco brand. I get so wasted on that stuff because it is SO good! :) And it's made by the Grey Goose people so it is quality stuff for $30. I'm actually going to buy a bottle on Monday, woo!
Wow! I am really cheap! When I was in college, Smirnoff was a splurge and I normally drank sour apple burnetts with cranberry juice (it mask the rubbing alchohol smell.)
Absolut is my favorite vodka, but I also like Svedka. Have you tried Effen vodka? It's pretty good, and then when you feel crappy the next morning, you get to yell "F-in vodka!" :)

Any suggestions for decently priced vodka? We're bringing in our own drinks, but I don't think Ketel One will be in the budget. But I don't want to serve cheap crap...
