We just got our vows and while they are nice, I would likee the part where we speak to each other to be funny, to lighten up the mood. Something like with this ring I promise to quit buying so many clothes and purses and he could say something like with this ring I promise to stop making up excusses to not do things.
I just want something but have no idea what to say….HELP!

I think you want to keep it mostly sweet, but you could still throw a couple cute things in there. Like, “when I see this ring, I will remember that we are a family now, and I will always put that first. Even if it means I can’t buy all the shoes I see.” And then he could say something like, “with this ring, I promise to try every day to give you everything you want, even if it means buying shoes instead of dinner.”
I think if you make the funny part just a portion of the overall sentiment, it’ll come across sweeter and kinder, than if you just razz on yourselves/each other.
ETA – and likewise with you saying you will accept him as he is, and not try to change him or nag him. And then he could say something about trying to be his best for you, so you won’t have to try to change him or nag him.

@Miss OBG: I completely agree. You don’t want it to get to the point where it overwhelms the real (serious) meaning behind the ceremony. If you throw in a cute statement within all the serious ones, I think it will go over much better with your guests, and make you happy as well!
