I googled wedding vows copied the parts I liked then pasted them into a document.  I added my own personalized parts, read them aloud then changed what I thought needed to be changed and this is what I ended up with.

I love you very much and I am so happy here today to finally become your wife.  I want to let you know that I understand that you are your own person with your own interests, desires, and needs, and I know that even though they are sometimes different they are no less important than my own.  I am promising to keep myself open to you, to let you in to my innermost fears, feelings, secrets and dreams.

Today I marry you, for richer, for poorer, for even poorer when I’ve been shopping a lot, in times of sickness and in times of health, in times of failure and in times of triumph, with all I have to give and all that I am.

I will always try to be understanding and have patience, regardless of what life would bring to us.  I want to grow old with you and I’m willing to face change as we both change as I take you now as my partner in life, my one true love and my husband, in the only way I know how — proudly from this day forward as long as we both shall live until death do us part.

This is what we used…

I (name), take you (name) to be my (husband/wife), my best friend and my one true love. I will be yours in times of plenty and in times of want, in times of sickness and in times of health, in times of joy and in times of sorrow, in times of failure and in times of triumph. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.

And we also used untraditional ring exchange wording…

This ring I give to you as a token of my complete love and devotion to you. I pledge this to you with all that I am now and all that I will ever be as your (wife / husband). With this ring, I gladly marry you and join my life to yours.

@CruiseWedding2010: Wow that’s lovely!

We haven’t done ours yet, but I have been clipping bits here and there that I like. We’re not very demonstrative people, so ours will prob be on the short side.

I like bits of this :

I vow to you the first cut of my meat, the first sip of my wine. From this day on it shall be only your name I cry out in the night and into your eyes that I smile each morning; I shall be a shield for your back as you are for mine, nor shall a grievous word be spoken about us, for our marriage is sacred between us and no stranger shall hear my grievance. Above and beyond this, I will cherish and honor you through this life and into the next.

You cannot possess me for I belong to myself, but while we both wish it, I give you that which is mine to give. You cannot command me for I am a free person, but I shall serve you in those ways you require and the honeycomb will taste sweeter coming from my hand.”  -fairly trad celtic/wiccan vows.

And also bits of this:

“I (name), do pledge you my love, (partner’s name), for as long as I live and after. What I possess in this world I give to you. I will keep and hold you, succor and tend you, protect and shelter you, all the days of my life. I am yours, always and forever.”  – from The Shadow Rising, by Robert Jordan.#

That’s what we’re working from so far, anyway, hope it’s a little bit useful to you!

@Sunshine23: Awh that’s lovely too!

To the OP – sorry, I’ve just read your post again, and it seems like more ideas were the last thing you needed! I definitely think short is good, especially if you’re a crier. Are you doing vows separately or together?

LOL Mwit, way to procrastinate!

I vote short and to the point, the best part of writing your own is you can cater it to you too, so maybe mention a couple things special about him or how you knew he was the one 😀

Our vows were very short – I got them from someone on weddingbee (I think it was Ribbons?)

I take you as my friend and love, beside me and apart from me, in laughter and in tears, in conflict and tranquility, asking that you be no other than yourself, loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not know yet, in all the ways that life may find us.”

Can I also suggest that you both bring your vows written/typed out to read in case your mind goes BLANK like my husbands did, all he could think of to say was that he loved me and will always love me.  Even though he had rehearsed practice vows with me many times that were beautiful!!  I knew I would be too nervous to remember anything, no matter how hard I would try to memorize them, so I brought mine.
