Hi KateMW!
I bought my gown from VOWS! I'm in the Boston area, so I went to the store, and had a good exerience, and wrote about it here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/04/10/chronicles-of-a-two-dress-bride-part-iv/
No experience with buying online, but I hope this helps some! :)
I do not have any experience with buying dresses online however I have been considering that for myself... I would be worried of the quality and if it is not a registered dealer then it is a replica of the dress. I was checking out this one website a friend found for me and when I contacted them they said they make a copy of the dress and it is 90% the same. So what that other 10% consists of I'm not sure ans was enough to deter me, I don't want to deal with returning and sending back and losing money on shipping and insuring the package.
The material, detail, stone / bead work can be different and throw off the entire dress and make it look like a different dress and not what you want.
Here is the link to the website a friend provided: http://www.topbridaldresses.com/home.php?xid=f20be933ba6f23862a95e696706e7316
I was looking at buying a dress from bestbridalprices, and I was shocked that their re-stocking fee was 50% of the cost of the dress. I would say go for (congrats on finding your dream dress!), but read the fine print closely.
I bought my dress (dress #2!) at VOWS and can't say enough about the experience. They're super helpful, and the dresses are great quality. Around Boston, they have a very good reputation. My FSIL also got her dress there, and it was perfect! I can't speak for the online purchasing, and their sales policies are strict, so I'd agree with the others to be very clear up front about the terms and conditions of purchase! But speaking from experience and reputation, it's a good business and I wouldn't hesistate to buy from them!
kate -- not sure if you have purchased your gown yet but i heart vows! they are a legit place and are all samples (some in better condition than others but nothing that a good tailor cant clean up). they are the actual designer dresses and NOT replicas. I purchased it at the store so i cant speak to their website service but i had a great experience there and purchased a goregous gown!

Does anybody have any experience with buying a gown from Bridalpower.com or Vows in Boston? I just happened upon their website tonight and found my dream dress! It's a Lela Rose which is normally 5k and they have it for $1400. OMG! To quote my hero Rachel Zoe, it's ba-na-nas! Anyway, I wouldn't be able to go up to Boston to try it on, but you can return the dresses. But, I'm still nervous about buying a dress like that from a website. Would you do it?
Good and bad experiences please!!!
