I have hair that goes past my waist. Its thick heavy and wavy. I love medieval style braids BUT not many people actually know how to do them. I contacted a lady at the renn faire and it will cost me 400 dollars to get her down here, and then probably another 100 for the style. For my engagement photos I attempted a regular hair salon and while I didn’t hate the hair style I felt like she had braided my hair into a helmet. Most people don’t know how to do 5 strand braids or even do a three strand braid on waist length hair (the hair braids itself at the bottom while the top is being braided). I’m tired of my hair being tugged and yanked on and people thinking they can do it and then finding out that waist length hair requires a different technique then shoulder length hair. Most beauty stylists don’t even realize how much conditioner you need to put in long hair.
Okay maybe that was more a vent then a question. The question is this- what other options are out there OTHER than braids? My hair has a really hard time holding a curl because its heavy (I actually have naturally curly hair but you can’t tell that because the weight pulls out all the curls leaving it wavy). For prom I sat in a bridal salon for 4 hours (120 dollars! she increased the price the longer it took!) while someone used a hair curling iron. It looked great for about 2 hours then all the curl was GONE. Hair spray alone will NOT hold up my curls. And if anyone gets near me with a curling iron I swear I’m going to walk out the door.
I’m frustrated with people not understanding hair this long 🙁
EDIT: I’m 5’11 so my hair is a little over 3 feet long. If I was a shorter girl it would probably be at my knees 😛
