If its not onsale anymore you should definitely wait. But if it does go onsale again or if you see something else that you can't live without at a great deal I would probably buy it. You don't wanna be kickin yourself for waiting if you don't get it at your shower.
I generally waited until things were on sale then purchased them. I made sure to purchase them as an item on the registry at Babies R Us because they can bring up the original sale if you do that and you can make an easy return. Then if I got anything I bought, I just brought it back to B R U and pretended it was the original item I had purchased. I could still kick myself for not buying the temporal thermometer when it was on sale for $25. I had $10 in R Us Bucks and a manufacturers coupon for $5 so I could have bought it for a mere $10!! But I was pregnant and tired and could not muster the energy. And it hasn't been on sale since. Grr!
@MightySapphire: Grrrr...I'm with you!
@LpCutiPie: Kickin' myself too!
I think 30% on sale isn't great, but if its like what MS is saying ($10 for a temporal thermometer) then go for it.
My friend wanted her bedding from Pottery Barn and she knew it was expensive but it was something they wanted to splurge on. She also wanted to piece together the set, not necessarily buy everything so she went ahead and bought it!
As long as you don't go crazy and buy it all ahead of time, you should be fine returning stuff you get duplicates of!
can you buy it on sale now - not have it taken off your registry. then if you get it as a gift return your own?
Whatever you decide to do don't spend a lot of money buying clothes. Just had 3 baby showers for family members and they all got tons of clothes! So hold off on buying that for sure. As for the bedding I'd go ahead and buy it. None of my 3 cousins got any of their bedding at the showers. They mostly got clothes, bibs, diapers and blankets. All three had different people in attendance so no sure why people gave those items.
Oh and my aunt found lots of the items on the local online yardsales like Craigslist. She found the crib on their and it looked brand new.
Yay!! The bedding went on sale again! 25% off $100 so only $75. (It's over $120 on Amazon and other places online. ) so I was not about to wait again and snapped it up.
DH got to the root of the issue and said, "So basically we aren't waiting for a free one from the shower because so we just want to be able to set up the crib already and look in there and say, this is our nursery?"
@Rgeddy: good idea for next time this happens
@vintage2010: your comment sent me over the edge and my primary thought was "MUST GET BEDDING, NOW!!"
@caszos: Yes, I will restrain myself now that I have my bedding. :) Well, maybe just a few more things....
YEA! Hope you enjoy setting up the crib! Can you post pictures of the bedding you chose?
FI spotted the matching lightswitch (3D) first. Then we realized the colors (lavender, deep plum, white, hint of green) were ideal. But what sent me over the moon was the combination of multiple textures of fleece/terry, corduroy, velour/velvet, cottton, satin in the quilt and bumpers. Sorry, I don't know my materials too well but there are a lot of different kinds.
You'd have to see it in person to appreciate...or maybe it's just me. :) I probably wouldn't have chosen it if I just saw it on the internet.
I like that one!
Also, consider the return policy of the stores you buy things from. If it has a 90 day policy (like BRU) then you have plenty of time to change your mind. I bought my entire bedroom set, then returned it because I found an even cuter set for half the price! And I did return a couple duplicates without an issue.
@MightySapphire: What's BRU? I think I'll save the packaging for everything, like you said--you never know... but DH installed the light cover as soon as we got home and the crib stuff is on! :) I eventually will take it off to wash, once I get some baby washing detergent.We are committed to this set!
BTW, the crib set is LuvBugs by LambsandIvy.com---was $75 at Sears on Sale and $140+ at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
I registered at Babies R Us, Target, Sears, Amazon, this week (only about 10-20 items at each place), hoping to get most everything else at the shower. Mom asked me what she should splurge on so I asked her if she would mind just cleaning up the registries well all the showers are said and done. So I should be able to hold out...except for just a few more things. :)
Thanks for mentioning Sears. I never thought to look there for baby stuff but ended up falling in love with some really cute things.
im in the same boat! I want this chaise lounge and it is 50% off!! The sale ends 3 days before the wedding. We have gotten $ gifts so im pretty sure i am going to order it in the next couple days!

Fell in love with bedding for the bloomin' nursery and it was on sale 30% off.
However, I was encouraged to wait for the shower. So I begrudgingly did.
Now it's off sale (boo hoo hoo) and it's killing me. I want to buy it so badly. This is my justification: I'm 5 months preggers and 'I could pop at anytime!'
I know this is going to happen again...with something else I want.
