I made it for my fiance (after we were engaged). He actually knew about engagement chicken because of the whole Howard Stern thing, so be prepared for your prospective SO to possibly know what’s up.  Here’s the Howard Stern story:

To add even more intrigue to the ever-evolving Engagement Chicken story, Howard Stern’s now-wife Beth Ostrosky cooked this chicken dish for then-boyfriend Howard, who raved about the chicken on his radio show the next day. An observant caller alerted the talk show host that the recipe was called Engagement Chicken, and Howard realized he had been had.

The chicken itself is very simple and tasty. There are a few permutations of the recipe out there on the interwebs but you don’t really need any of the optional herbs that some list like sage, rosemary, thyme, etc. They’re mostly there for garnish and can overpower the chicken, so I would just choose one to include.  Roasted potatoes were a great side for this dish but there are plenty of other options too.

Good luck!!

I made it! The engagement came 1.5 years later Frown. It’s a good recipe though.

I made engagment chicken 3 months before he poped the question!

I am a believer of superstition and magic.

Here is my post

ETA: I am planning on making the same thing for when we invite his family over to our apt for our first dinner post engagment

I plan to make this sometime in may. I hope it works, because my walk date is in July. GOOD LUCK to all who has and will try.

I made it last night!

My boyfriend LOVED it and today described himself as “high on love” for me!

He also ate the leftovers for breakfast this morning.

We’ll see what happens ๐Ÿ™‚
