Today was fun, but also terrible. I got to see one of my closest and newly engaged friends try on wedding dresses and that was really special (Even though she hasn’t been with her SO as long as I have been with my SO). It was just 3 of us and she wanted help picking the top contenders before she takes her mom to pick “the dress.” She has 4 beautiful options and one of the four will be “the dress.” We went to two stores for two appointments and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. Sure my friends (the engaged bride to be and a married friend) made comments like “Shouldn’t you be dress shopping soon?!” But it was tolerable.
Then we tell the woman at the second store that we need to leave the appointment in the next 15 minutes because we have an ultrasound appointment for my married friend (she is 32 weeks pregnant with her first child). She said we must be having a fun day with wedding dress shopping and baby ultrasound appointments and it was a really fun and special day and I am very happy for both of them.
As we left the woman said “Congratulations on your engagement!” to the engaged bride-to-be and said she would see us again soon. Then she turned and said “Congratulations on your first child!” to my pregnant married friend. And then it was really awkward because I was the only other person there… so then she said “Oh, and Congratulations to you too!” (FACE PALM!!!)
My sweet friend chimed in that I had just started my last year of law school, and the woman at the store said that merited congratulations. While I appreciated the comment I was still painfully aware of the fact that I was not engaged, or married, or having children any time soon. So awkward :-/

@HeartsandSparkles: OH GOD. How. Awkward.
Ah, well.. at least you have the last year of law school left and then the bar exam to study for which will keep you busy if it hasn’t come before then. Good luck on the bar next summer!
Do you have a timeline / any idea of when it should be coming??

@Edmt84: Kinda wishing I was an engaged idiot 🙂
@futuremrsk18: I would ideally like to get married on our anniversary in May of 2014 and I don’t want to rush wedding planning. I am hoping by New Years Day I will be enagaged. I should know pretty soon bc SO has already leaked that it will occur in a different country and I need to renew my passport so as soon as he tells me we are going on a vacation somewhere outside the country, I know we will be getting engaged. If it has not happened by our next anniversary (May 2013) I have told myself I will walk.
It is also challenging because I am starting to apply for a job as an attorney after I take the Bar and some are out of state (the economy is tough and I might have to relocate). I want my future cemented before I have to make all these life-changing decisions! Plus, I obsess about engagements/weddings too much and I really need to be focusing on school.
I don’t know what I would do without all you fabulous waiting bees!!
