So my boyfriend told me that the reason he has not proposed yet is because he wants to be set in a stable, forever job. Now he has a really good job and makes pretty good money. He works for the New York State Tax Department and he even recently got promoted. But he really wants to move to Florida (so do I) and he doesn’t feel like his present job is one that he wants to be in forever. He doesn’t feel like there’s much more room for advancement. My thing is he is the type of guy who will keep trying to better himself and his career, which I love. But I don’t want to wait 5 more years or whatever it could take until he feels like he at that stable, forever job. Just venting I guess. But any thought/advice would be great 🙂

My Fiance is the same way. He didn’t propse until he got a more stable job. However, he will never be in the same job forever. He’s always looking for the next bigger better job. Drives me nuts haha. We’ve been engaged since April, and he’s already got a prospective new job he might be starting after the first of the year.
Just be patient 🙂 Have you told him your feelings on waiting X amount of years? Maybe if you both have a goal he’ll try to get his job situation where he wants in that time.

@RoseyBee: My guy is the exact same. We can’t get engaged until we can pay for the wedding. Even though we will both be bringing in £38k combined next year, and can work out the maths that says we can afford a wedding in a couple of years, there is no chance he will let us plan it without the money saved up…. and preferably a mortgage too!!! But honestly, it’s the best way to be. Imagine being with someone who just spent and spent and racked up debts! That would suck, in my opinion. Better to have my man and wait for him to feel confident that we have the money to follow through on our plans 🙂
