Well it seems there usually is one imho.  I know I'll "graduate" soon and am darn ready to do so b/c we need to get our planning underway asap!

I do believe there's a definite concentration of women who get engaged in or around holidays and there's for sure a cluster of them coming up:  Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years' Eve, New Years' Day, Superbowl Sunday (a man holiday), and of course, Valentine's Day.

I think mine is definitely coming by the end of the year.

The boy recently gifted me a "nothing special" ring, and when his sister saw it, she suspiciously asked what the ring meant? I said it was "just because" and asked her if it was supposed to mean something. She hesitated and said she'll tell me in a month or two.

Congrats to everyone! I hope I'm in this soon... FI mentioned to FMIL the other day that it would be "winter or spring" - there's a big difference between the two! Hel-lo?

I think the engagement blitz season is definitely underway!  I got engaged during the holiday season - I can't wait to hear everyone's stories and see pics!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a Waiting graduate! We got engaged on 10/10, and we'll be getting married on 10/22/10! Here's the link to my engagement post, and you can see pictures of the ring he proposed with (my great-grandmother's ring) and my new ring (we took the main stone from the original ring and had it re-set).

The long story short of our engagement is that he proposed along a rural road and river in Vermont as the sun was setting in the valley, making all the leaves on the trees glow (it was the peak weekend up there!). We had visited a brewery and cheese shop earlier in the day, and were up for the weekend camping, planning to go to an Oktoberfest at another brewery the next day. It was perfect-- just the two of us, off somewhere quiet in a place we both absolutely love.

As I mentioned before, he proposed with my great-grandmother's ring. It's technically my ring (she left it to me when she passed away), and I had told him a million years ago that I wanted him to use that stone. He kind of knew what I wanted, but wanted to be 100% sure that I liked the ring, so he proposed with her ring with the promise that we'd go together to have the stone re-set. Which we did! :)

I was waiting for it all to happen for just about all of our 5 year, 3 month relationship (I knew about 2 weeks into it that we'd get married), but actively sitting on pins and needles for the last 2 years or so, once I graduated from college. He knew he was driving me insane with the waiting, and would toy with me every once in a while. Things like getting down on one knee... then tying his shoe, or telling me he wants to be like Gene Simmons and never get married but just date for like 30 years. Yeah, he's a real funny guy. Of course, that led to me reminding him that he is neither Jim from "The Office" nor is he a rockstar.

I knew he had the ring from about July of this year on, since my mom moved and gave me all the rest of the jewelry that had been left to me over the years-- strands of pearls, rosary beads, etc. I immediately noticed the ring wasn't there, and had a freak-out session, thinking it would be any day! Negative. What really happened was that a year ago, when we moved in together, my mom gave him the ring to hang on to until he was ready. Which he hid in his work clothes drawer (he owns a landscaping company, so there was no way I'd be digging around in his Carhartts).

I tried the "no wedding talk til Christmas" thing a few times and failed miserably every time. I made my own version of engagement chicken (which may have worked, but I'm a little doubtful). And most of all, I hung around the Waiting boards for a while with you fine ladies, all in the same boat. I can't tell you how much you all helped me out! And for that, you all deserve the world :)

I do not expect to be a member of this club, or even the next one.  Why?  I'm not certain.

    Nonetheless, I can daydream.

I'm never going to graduate, I just decided. He hasn't talk to my dad this weekend like I was hoping and we're leaving tomorrow. And I don't know when he'll see my parents again since I'll come back for Christmas by myself... sigh.

I LOVE this thread! I BETTER be graduating before the end of this year! I don't know how much longer I can handle waiting! The thing I will miss most is being with all of you ladies in waiting.... Hopefully we'll all graduate soon and we can meet again on the planning board!!!  @MissLeah--- I often have to remind my SO that he is not Jim from the office as well...he loves to lead me on with the shoe tying exercise... I hope I recognize it when it is the real thing since I'm so used to being tricked up!

@honeybear: i seriously doubt it. but i did dream that it happened at christmas and was perfect (I always wanted a christmas proposal, he sort of knows it but not really).  for me it would be so friggin' awesome, but i am really not getting my hopes up because i don't think he'll be able to afford it and i'd hate to think and get let down when he can't afford it, now if he could.... that would be a different story!  i'll just be sooo happy that he's coming home with me and be happy that i am home!

i think this gives us all hope! i think every last oone of us who is stillll waiting will have our bling by the beginning part of next year.

crebre - i'm certain you'll be getting a ring by the end of this year. i feel it!

KMSull - don't say never (I know that I should listen to my own advice). patience is a virtue that is clearly not part of my DNA but i'm feeling good vibes for all of the ladies in waiting on here!

@jaxx317: y'all are seeing something that i am definitely not because ummm well financially i doubt if there is anyway for it to happen. but thanks for the vote of confidence. as a matter of fact we were talking about all of the things (financially) we'd have to do before the end of the year and i was like we have to buy a new vehicle for me, he has to find a lawyer for his custody battle

and then i said well i guess there's no more money left for anything else.

and he grinned and said what else would it be left for

and i innocently batted my eyes and said my christmas present, the rice cooker.

Waiting Graduates (Engagement Blitz Season October '09-February 10) : wedding Sweet Face Badge Button P145485450232128949t5sj 400

and he just looked and said do you know how much it costs and i said no (batting eyes).

then he goes, oh it's so cheap i'll make sure you get it (but he kept grinning)

and i was like okay because i REALLY want my rice cooker.

and then we went into our room and i said that i know we aren't getting you know anytime soon because he wants a spring wedding and we dont' have any money to pay for it in the next few months and i'd have to not take clients

he said well take all the clients you can because we have to pay for this soiree

and then i said well i can't take it if it is on our wedding day but i don't know it is because you haven't asked.  and i'm pretty sure you're asking around this time next year anyway.

    and he said oh really.

    and i said yep.

and that was the gist of it.  i swear the banter back and forth is exciting and scary and nervewracking and exhilirating all at the same time. and then we discussed budget a bit (he thinks we can do it for 1500) not in his wildest dreams.  he also doesn't want to rent some place for the weekend nor does he want a saturday day time wedding, he wants it at night.  i mean who knew he was this opinionated?!

@KMSULL: definitely agree with jaxx on this one. i am completely impatient.

I should be graduating by mid-December! The man said we would be engaged by the time we leave for a cruise December 19. He's already got the ring (just picked it up yesterday actually) so now I just have to wait for it.  Our 4 year anniversary is tomorrow (oh, well today now) but I don't really think I'll be getting it quite yet. But I can definitely handle waiting a month and a half at this point.

I do! It's actually in my closet because I'm holding on to it for him. Which will probably ruin the proposal a little bit because I'll have to go get it, but I don't really care. I think you might like it crebre, it's aquamarine! Whoo hoo! I'll definitely post a picture once I can officially wear it.

OMG EEEEEEEEEEE I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE IT!! how exciting!! do you know the shape of the stone?! what made you choose an aquamarine? i think i'd die if it were in my closet. or wear it around the house while doing chores (a la charlotte while she was vacuuming).

It's a cushion cut, which makes me very happy (I actually picked it out so I know alllllll about it Smile).  Aquamarine is actually both of our birthstones and I've always loved it. So delicate, yet still some color. We just picked it up yesterday and I've already put it at least 3 times. I'm trying to be good and just let it sit there but it's killing me!

roxymarie: FAINT! i love the cushion cuts (or squarer emeralds) with the aquamarine.  vera wang started my obsession years ago when i saw platinum weddings and one of the girls was wearing a vera wang aquamarine as her engagement ring. i think it was in 06 or so when it came out? i am not sure if i'll get an aqua, blue spinel, topaz or what... i guess i'll have to wait over the next year and see.

If you're talking about the Vera Wang with the cushion cut and pave band, I absolutely love that ring. Hopefully you'll either get an aqua or something else you love! Blue topaz has a great color too, I sometimes even confuse it with the darker colored aquas.

hahaha! I'm sure he's heard enough about your love of aqua to get the hint. I'm sure he's a smart guy. That Vera is gorgeous. I just recently saw pictures of it. I was in the diamond rut for awhile (I think mostly because to me it signified engagement) until I came on these boards and saw the colored rings post. I fell in love with the aquas all over again and I am so glad!

I should be graduated by February...we kind of decided on Jan/Feb 2010 engagement and a Jan 2011 wedding.

But then he decided he really wanted a summer 2010 wedding, and I informed him that Jan/Feb was going to be a bit too late to get engaged, and he said "Don't worry, I've got it covered." Gah.

So now I'm just freaking out every two seconds. Like this weekend...we're going on a little trip up into the mountains in North Carolina to see the pretty fall leaves...and I'm like 99% sure he doesnt even have a ring in his possession yet, but maybe?? I mean...what guy creates a trip "to see the leaves" just for fun? Haha.
