I think that's a very true, and touching sentiment. I'm sorry for your loss but wish you all the best in your future with your SO (soon to be FI)
@Scottish_lassie: Thank you
I was a little worried that I was prattling on about nonsense at the end. Wine and the internet is not the best combination lol
Thinking about it now, the appearance of the ring itself is almost irrelevant - what it symbolizes, the promise to spend the rest of our lives together, is what I want the most.
It's pretty awesome that you feel this way. Some chicks get ring crazy & so consumed w/the perfect ring & earliest engagement... but it sounds like you've got a level head on your shoulders & are seeing the big picture: that you truly want to marry this dude & spend your life w/him. It's a beautiful thing! :-) I'm sorry to hear about the family tragedy, though.
I just noticed on FB today, there were posts w/first pictures of newborns, people graduating college, cars reaching 200k miles, girls planning weddings, kids losing their first teeth, grandparents being sick & in the hospital... Just made me realize that life is crazy/awesome. You have to enjoy the moment, b/c you never know how it's going to go. I think that becomes clearer as you get older. :-)
@Mouse217: Thank you
I have to say the uncanny thing about tragedies - especially a senseless death in the family - is that they certainly force you to take a close look at your priorities. I'm happy to say that I'm no longer obsessing about whether 14K or 18K yellow gold is better lol.
@Miss Circe: That's very nicely put. I hope this positive distraction helps you through this tough time. I will also say that you definitely should not hesitate to post pictures of rings you're thinking of so we can all enjoy ;)
@Moja Milosc: Lol thank you and don't mind if I do..
Ok I have developed a fancy towards asscher/cushion/radiant cut stones. The pics below are the Asscher Kashmir Blue Sapphire and Cushion Emerald from BTD.

And if they could be set into a yellow gold band similar to these ones from BTD and moissaniteco, I would be a very happy and lucky woman.

Oh and my dream wedding band is this ring from moissaniteco.
I apologize now for the ring porn overload
Whoops those pics came out larger than intended. But quick waiting update: whilst I was away on a girls' weekend with my girlfriends, the SO was at a BBQ where he told his closest friends that he is planning on proposing to me later this year. Apparently it was greeted with high fives so luckily his friends think that it's a good idea lol.
@Miss Circe: The third setting is my ring!! Do you want to see real life pics to help decision? And I do love that second one :)
@flownmuse: Oooh yes please! That woul be wonderful
I would be happy to get any one of those rings really.
@Miss Circe: :) It's making me laugh, because your list of final options above includes some of my favourite ones. I guess you have impeccable taste ;)

And a long distance shot for sparkly.

It's a .75 on a size 7.5 band if that helps for sizing too. Good luck!
@flownmuse: Haha great minds think alike
and have the same ring sizes too apparently lol! Your ring is absolutely stunning - congratulations on your engagement
Funnily enough, my SO's family is from Scotland.
@Miss Circe: Thanks, but I'm still waiting, just took some sneaky shots before it was taken away from me! It's hiding in the house, teasing me...
@flownmuse: Well I just put my foot in my mouth there sorry
But at least you know it's there and it'll be officially on your finger soon. But the teasing... props to you for being able to give it back lol
LOL, don't worry, I just post it around here far too often considering it's not officially mine. I refuse to take the security tag off it too cause, again, it's not officially mine.
I hope you come back and update us when you have the final product. What setting are you thinking of going for?
@flownmuse: Oh I definitely will
And I think I will let him choose the setting as I would be very happy with any one of those posted above. Lol I'm trying to be good and relinquish control - I'm such a Type A personality, it's ridiculous lol.

The SO has given me the green light to send him my preferred ring options. And after wading through all the photos and information I've collected (I know - obsessed much lol), I've narrowed my ideal choice to an Avarra gemstone set into either a custom band made here in NZ or the Tiffany Cathedral ring from BTD - depending on the willingness of jewellers to work with a lab-created stone. For the wedding band, I think we'll get something from moissaniteco
I have to say I was grateful for this development for two reasons. One, it means that he and I are definitely moving forward with our plans. Two, I had something to distract from thinking about a recent family tragedy which I still need to be distracted from today. And it certainly put things in perspective - life is so precious. You don't know what will happen the next day and you just have to go for what you want, cherish those you love and live life on your own terms. Thinking about it now, the appearance of the ring itself is almost irrelevant - what it symbolizes, the promise to spend the rest of our lives together, is what I want the most.
