My FI and I did the same thing. Only we were waiting to pay off the ring, not to be a surprise. We went about planning everything like it was official, and when it finally was, everyone was still happy/excited about it, even though they already knew it was going to happen.
Yep! We've already agreed upon a tentative date; we have a ring. Just waiting for the official ask. I'm getting worried because he has been super busy lately and I know he hasn't had time to plan anything special. I would love to be asked by New Years but who knows. I definitely feel you.
Sounds just like us! EXACTLY like us... including what my FI would say! My only advice is to be careful. Unless you already have venues deposited and for sure it can change. We pretty much had everything planned but now there's not a single place available on our date. So... the dates changing and that means our photographer may change too which is the most heartbreaking part to me. So, just be aware that things that aren't set in stone in your plans can change :-)

We are in the same boat! We have a date picked, a place picked (even put the deposit down), he told me to go look at wedding dresses, we talked about our plans all the time, and still no ring/asking, even though he has it! Soooo, here I am waiting! He told me it will be January, but I'm praying for sooner (CHRISTMAS!!!!)
Yes. We already have a date and are currently planning the wedding. I just made an appointment with my little cousin to go try on dresses at David's Bridal. She's engaged ("officially") and asked me to go with her and try on dresses with her. So, December 18th, we'll be at David's Bridal trying on gowns. LOL!!!
We have a date, ordered our save the dates and invites along with paid for our venue, caterer, cake, DJ and I'm still waiting for the ring. My FH also says its going to be an amazing surprise. We are on the official countdown to the wedding. I order my dress this month. I don't have a ring officially but we are definatley getting married in 9 mos. At this point the ring no longer holds the same appeal as it used to ... I'm marrying my best friend ring or not and I can't wait!!
my boyfriend did the same thing to me... he came home late one night a few weeks ago and started talking to me about the fact that I wanted a fall wedding and he suggested a date that the two of us agreed upon. I asked him if this was his crappy was of proposing and (Thank goodness) he said no. However, he has been extremely good at hiding any plans (if there are any) of proposing. I have no idea if he has a ring... let alone a plan. But I did tell him that if he wants the date we picked... he should step on it because planning a wedding takes time.
We have also agreed on a tentative date...April 30 or 16th of 2011. We are going to look at venues starting in January when we get back from our big trip together...and if we find something we absolutely love we will put the deposit down...all this before i get my ring!
We picked june 2012 but dont know the date. I also cant wait to tell everyone but we are waiting till we are officially engaged.
We have a tentative date for August 7, 2010. I hope it works out for the both of us.
We have an approximte time... but since we don't know where he's going to school and when he has to be there... we're just kind of waiting it out. Which is convenient to him saving up for a ring so he can pay in cash!

We've put the deposit down on the ceremony and reception site, and we already have the invitations, favors and my dress and are waiting for confirmation from the photographer we chose. I'm starting to get a little anxious to actually get the ring now, though! :) We're not telling everyone until it's official (although immediate family and close friends know), so I can't wait!
I really think this is becoming the norm. I think its great that couples are talking about the future but still getting excited about the special moments & milestones (like officially asking!). Congrats girl and keep on planning!
I am right there with you! BF told me this past weekend that I will for sure have my ring by January 31st! So I have less than 2 months....which he said gives me plenty of time to plan our October 2010 wedding! Hahaha boys are so silly!

I know I'm not the only lady in waiting that already has a date picked. He and I both agreed on a date and have planned most of the wedding. I am so excited and want to share the news, but i haven't 'offically' been asked. Everyone keeps asking him when he is going to pop the question already. His answer: I want it to be a surprise. Surprise? I know it is coming, so give it to me already!!! I so want it by Christmas. I don't know what I am going to do if I don't get it...LOL!!! What is he waiting for?
Anyone else going thru the same thing?
