    I saw this earlier today.  I serve and bartend part time now (used to full time, as well as manage the bar occassionally) so I posted it on Facebook since lots of my friends are also in the industry and can relate somewhat.

    I honestly think that either:

    a) the waitress is making it all up and staged it

    or

    b) a coworker or manager of the waitress printed a duplicate copy and left it for her on the table and took the original, making the waitress believe that’s what was left for her.

    Also for her being offended that they thought her name was dan…my names charlie and im a girl. Ive had customers who were told ‘charlie will be assisting you tonight’ and then be shocked when I come around but I’m not offended by it. Its quite plausible that they were told Dan (often short for daniel) would be serving them and were surprised shes a girl. Its not a big deal really, it doesn’t make them homophobic lol

    @CherryL:  +1 yes!

    they’ve given proof of their credit card statement shows the tip. $93 dinner bill & they’re credit card statement shows $111

    so I believe the couple.

    To be fair, the waitress has made lots of money off it (though she says she’s donating some to the Wounded Warrior Project) so that’s the incentive right there.  She set up a PayPal account after the story went viral awhile back and lots of people have given her money.

    Since the couple has there Visa bill which they couldn’t fake (unless they went back the same day and ordered an equally priced meal, which I doubt) I have to believe them.  It is very possible that someone else on staff did it, but that seems odd as well.  Not much motive unless they just didn’t like her and wanted to upset her.

    I am inclined to believe the couple. But who knows these days? People lie and scheme all over the place. But why would the couple provide documentation if they were lying? If I did something like that I would never come forward.

    I can’t believe this is even news. What if it wasn’t someone in a minority group? Everything is a political platform and money grab nowadays.

     it’s so sad that this couple minding their own business is kinda in the middle of this whole thing. it’s also frustrating that this waitress used this to gain profit from it. i know that this world can be a cruel place but not all people are bad. how sad for her to make these people look like people they aren’t.

    Well, SOMEONE, doctored that receipt. And since they talked to someone, owner? manager? Who was also defensive even though she had the credit card slip, makes me think it might have been him. Maybe did it for attention or business.

    Whoa no way. At first I was wondering maybe the couple lied but then the waitress spoke she seemed flustered and just keep saying I don’t know. I think if the couple actually wrote that she would’ve been furious, no ? Hmm.
