I wanted something different from a typical engagement session, and after hearing the Katy Perry’s Waking up in Vegas, I knew I wanted to recreate our own version of that story.  Just to clear up some confusion, in our day-to-day, we’re probably very far from the “hot and steamy” couple.  The photo in our about section is probably a lot more descriptive of who we are as a couple.  Don’t get me wrong, we can be hot… but for the purpose of the session, we  had to do a bit of acting.

Picking the right photographer is very important, but the planning process can be just as important.  We got a lot of our inspiration from Katy Perry’s song and spent months to plan everything out.  Stylizing your shoot can make your photos look that much better.  If you’re interested in stylizing your engagement session on your own, here are some pointers:

• Unique location: Our backdrop was Vegas.  It worked out perfectly because we were all going to be there for a photography conference.  Check to see when your favorite photographers are on tour or traveling, and you may be able to get schedule a session with them in your hometown without paying for travel fees.  We’ll announce our cities and dates shortly.
• Props: Bouquet was made from Joann’s and an Elvis.  The king lives.  We ran into a bit of a problem finding that all the chapels do not allow outside photography and whether you actually get married or not, you still need to purchase the wedding package.  We ended up hiring an Elvis.  Cheapest one was $80/hr.  We snuck around in front of the chapel areas to take photos, which worked out even better!
• Clothes and Accessories: Stylizing the clothes and accessories probably took the most time.  I had to find a “wedding dress” that looked like I effortlessly found it while partying it up in Vegas.  In reality, to get that effortless look was far from effortless.  It probably took months of searching, and we finally stumbled upon it at the mall in Jakarta.  The other outfit I got from H&M screamed “Vegas.”  It was bold and hot.  In total, I had two dresses, a necklace, feather hairpiece, and shoes I got from Miracle Mile on the strip.
