im not sure what the walmart invites look like but i considered going to a chain store for those types of diy invites since i dont plan on going super fancy, ordering them, or paying more than $100 on invites.
i accidentally found mine while browsing through tjmaxx while my mom went in for a return. they had a "past season" design of invites that they sell at michaels by BRIDES magazine. they sold at michaels for $40/box of 40 invites (but even that was steep for me since we're sending out about 150).
at tjmaxx (stationary aisle) they were $8/box of 40. i scooped them up right away!! i also found matching programs, thank you cards, favor boxes, and sticker seals (all of that enough for 160 people for about $50). im super ecstatic because i didnt care to go all out and spend on fancy paper goods but i feel like im getting away with decent quality stuff for such a steal!
you never know where you might find "treasures"! keep your eyes peeled!
I didn't buy Walmart but I did get ones @ Target for $30/50 invites. The ones I got are pretty plain but I loved the envelopes they came in....I'm dressing mine up to make them stand out. They have a bunch of options there and coordinating Thank You notes and stationary. Still cheaper than ordering online and I know exactly what they will look like too. I think that they won't look cheap if you are creative and it still won't be as expensive.
I got mine from Target and they were perfect. We were able to customize the colors and designed everything just the way we wanted.
My programs cost $1. I was browsing goodwill and found them marked down to $2 but it was 1/2 off day. They were from target, didn't match my invites, but it didn't matter. They were ivory with a simple band and we tied ribbon on them. It was perfect.
We used invites from WalMart (the Martha Stewart line) for our hometown reception and I think they turned out really well (you can see them on this DIY post: http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/envelope-liner-template-for-ms-eyelet-invitations) Especially considering they were less than $30 for 150 invites. I think it all depends on what you make them into. I think several that I've seen recently in Target, Michaels, and even Office Depot have ALOT of potential!
We are using the Walmart silver pocket invitations...they look AWESOME! The only issues we had was there were no instruction included. We spent $60 on them and then our local printing shop did the rest for $64 that was including printing the invitation, RSVP, and returm address on both evelopes.
