Here's what I did http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/diy-guestbook and I think a lot of other brides on here have done the same now too!
My dad is making us a bench that everyone will sign and then we will seal it after the wedding.
If you are crafty, I have seen people have fabric pens and small quilt blocks that everyone signs and then you make a quilt with them afterwards.
My brother took a few slices of a tree trunk and is having people sign that and hanging it up on their basement wall after the wedding.
There options are infinite....good luck!
@amariem25- That is so freakin' cute. Love it. i totally stole this idea from etsy..
Check out Etsy! They have lots of products/inspiration! And sorry for the huge photo.
We got postcards from all the different cities that we've lived in and people wrote us notes on the cards and put them in a mailbox that I got. The plan is to now put them all in an album.
We had a vendor on Etsy make us a poster. She did it in our colors, and it includes our names, the date, venue information time, etc. It's really awesome! We had it matted, and guests will sign that. I'm super excited to hang it in our house!
My mom's making us a scrap book and we are going to have Polaroids so guests can take their picture, paste it in the book and then write something below. Nerdy, but personal
Like alot of other brides on here, we are using the envelope guest book with a tiny twist. We are having the guest sign a wish for us to open in one year. On our first anniversary we will open them up and read they. We are using post card size.
We made a photobook with our engagement photos and are having people leaving us messages on all of the pages of the photobook (around the pictures).
There are so many different things you can do! So I added a bunch of pictures to get your imagination going. In the following order are: signing a plate, picture matt, notes tucked into little envelopes, photobooth guest book, and the quilt/blanket idea.
My fiance loves music and has several guitars. we are using one of his old acoustic guitars (not valuable-could be found at a garage sale or flea market) and people are going to sign it. Later we will display it on the wall in the office or music room.
My sisters & mom & I made scrapbook pages that we had people sign.
I was just at a wedding where the bride made a snapfish photo book [with no text, just background pictures] with pictures of them and had people sign it. I wish I had done that!
We're getting married where we went to college so I got a nice coffee book on the history of our school and am going to have people sign in margins, blank pages and over text.
Is your wedding at special location or perhaps your engagement story? I wanted to have our guestbook out year round and become part of our dialy "library" rather than putting it away on a shelf.
FI is a musician so we are using a guitar as a guestbook. It will hang on the wall in his office (or maybe in our living room) with the others when the wedding is over.
moosejaw-very cool idea! My fiance plays hockey so you just sparked an idea to use a stick as well. Thanks!
We had a photobooth and had the guests put their pictures in it and write a message next to us. My SIL and BIL had someone take a picture of each person or couple when they entered and later took all the photos and made a shutterfly album.
I just thought of something as I was reading. My FI is a huge golfer. We live in a city that only gets 5 decent months of golf weather, and he's on his 56th round this year. HE'S CRAZY! Anyway, we are having our wedding at a golf club in our city, and I'm going to bring up the idea with him tonight of getting our guests to each sign a golf ball and we'll put it in a tall vase in our basement full of golf memorabilia. Thanks for getting my juices flowing girls!
My FI's cousin-in-law is a ball player, so they had several baseballs that guests could sign that would then be put into a case later for display in their house.
We are having a wishing tree..
Everyone writes their note on a tag then hangs it on the tree, i pln on having it on display in my house after but if i decide i no longer can do that or dont want to im going to make the tags into a scrapbook.. :-)
Hi Bee's ... Here are some pictures of our guest book! We bought it off Etsy from a lady in Latvia. It's beautiful and unique! Handmade, leather & jute. Tons of pages. We started the first page off with our invitation... then the following 30 pages are our engagement pictures (i added vintage corner stays on 2 corners of every picture). We put quotes on pages over some pictures.. love & marriage quotes.
Our guests will sign the pages following all of our engagement pics. So much fun! I'm happy to share the Etsy selling if anyone is interested! Our book is 10x14 but she makes them in all different sizes and does custom jobs as well. :)

Another idea is using a wooden box to hold guest cards, thnen you can use the wooden box later! Here are ideas: www.thetrendysparrow.etsy.com
I originally planned on doing the quilt idea but have since decided to make a chess board from wood and paint and have my guests sign squares. Since I will have more guests than 64 squares will allow, I am having each square made out of two retangles with similar colors (two dark rectangles to make a square and two light rectangles to make a square). Therefore there will be two guest names per square. After the wedding I am going to glaze over the signatures (made from two differnt colors of paint marker--white for darker squares and black for lighter squares). I can't wait to see how it turns out. I decided the board game because my fiance and I are big into "game nights" and we could even hang the board on the wall if we wanted to. I can not wait to see how it turns out!!!
I forget where I saw this but I thought it was SUPER cute and unique. You could probably even find a blank puzzle and puzzle glue at a craft store if you want to go more affordable.
I love the puzzle idea. I'm trying to find a out of the box idea, I think that would be adorable.
I went to http://roxyheartvintage.com to purchase my guest book. She has tons and they are gorgeous!

Ours will still be a regular guest book, but I feel like it qualifies as unique because I put some time into embellishing it. I took this:
http://www.amazon.com/N-A-Blush-Ivory-Guest/dp/B0012K736Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337824169&sr=8-1
and turned it into this:
Pretty happy with how they turned out!
We're doing the photo mat idea. I did want a traditional guestbook for years at first, but I think I prefer the phot mat idea...that way the photo gets hung in our home and we can see everyone's signatures too. Might still do a tradtional book too though (just in case we run out of space on the photo)...we'll see.
@bridalprincess: I really liked the idea of the photomat, too, and debated doing that before I opted for the traditional guestbook. (And there is still the possibility we would use both ...)
I opted for the book for two reasons. I really liked the ivory and blush rosebud one when I saw it (and even more so once I finished decorating it!), and I thought that the extra pages in the book would make a convenient place to keep track of gifts as we open them and thank you notes as we send them out. (Looking for excuses to get a little more use out of the book - but it seems like a good way to do it, and it's so pretty!)
I found this on etsy and absolutely love it. We just ordered ours.

Looking for an alternative to the standard guest book where people just sign their names.... any ideas for unique ways to do it and spice things up a bit?
