I made my own invites and for inspiration I probably visited 50 invitation websites and was finally able to start a “mock-up” of all the things I wanted in my invitiation (belly band or no belly band? pockets or no pockets? maps? etc) I was able to “create” my own unique invitation with a smorgasbord of things I liked the best.

I would start with a list of what you think of / visualize when you think of the “perfect” wedding invitation. Then add on to that and build your ideal invitation.

I probably designed about 5 prototypes of our invite (all really different from each other) before DH and I decided on which one we liked best. From there we tweaked and played with it to develop it into something we loved.

Honestly, scour google images, wedding paper divas, the DIY section and gallery here on WB. There are a few “show me your invite” threads too, so search the boards too! Once you have some inspiration just start throwing things together and see what works and what doesn’t! It was very trial and error for me.

You can definitely do this cheaply, so long as you watch the sales at your local craft store.  It sounds like you want a folded invite with a pocket.  This is easy to make using 12×12 cardstock and 8.5×11 cardstock, and should run you about $1 each on sale.  I made a sample (see pictures below).  Let me know if you want the specific measurements of the pieces.  Hope this helps!

@ticatica: Being a UK bride too, the US bees invites’ are fabulous, I don’t know how they do it.
