I'm having trouble finding a cake topper I like. My Fi and I are both brunette and we wanted something kind of humorous. I'm having trouble finding something I like within my price range (I don't want to spend more than $20 or so) The cake topper isn't really that important to us, but we don't want it to be ugly either! Anyone want to help me find one? I'm getting so frustrated I almost bought rubber duckies!
    Required: Both brunette
Things I would like, but aren't required: Strapless dress bride, bride hair down, something to do with my man being in the US Navy
I want it humorous, but not skanky! Yes, I've seen skanky cake toppers! haha

Aw, those ducks are kinda cute. At the risk of stating the obvious have you checked out Etsy? Or put up an Alchemy request?

Oh god... I love rubber duckies so that would have worked for me (though I put my mom in charge of this small detail so she'd have total control over it, and i think she likes it, lol)

Have you considered picking up some of those wooden peg people and painting them to look like you and your FI?

I think Michael's sells them. Honestly, I'm leaving to go to Michaels in like 5 minutes so if i see them there, i'll try to remember to come back and post!

Aw, I think that's so sweet! If you and your FH like it then go for it. Nobody liked mine and FH's idea for a cake topper and when it came in EVERYONE loved it.

This is adorable, but the pricetag is high if you ask me....

I agree. Very cute, but I can't see any reason why I would spend more on my cake topper than on my dress! Spending over $20 already makes me want to cringe, because I know I'll just throw it away!

I totally agree.  I got a monogram cake topper at AC Moore with a 50% off coupon.  $7 was pretty reasonable to me....

I love the wooden peg people but some sellers on Etsy are insane with their prices, ESPECIALLY if something is dubbed "wedding." I mean, I know that it is a "custom order" but painting two little peg people is NOT going to take that long and doesn't require that much skill.

If you like this style, do you think you would be comfortable making them yourself? Quite a few of the bees have done them, I'm sure you could find tons of helpful tips. If not, is anyone in your wedding party crafty enough for you to ask them to make these for you as a gift? It wouldn't cost more than a few dollars for supplies at any craft store..

Edit: Here's Miss Pretzel's post on them:

I know several others have done them also.

do you need it to depict you?

I found this picture and think its the way I'm leaning. It looks fairly simple, if I don't do it myself, i'll probably alchemy it on etsy.

Nope, it doesn't have to depict us! This is sort of just one of those tasks I just want to be over and done with haha! I really like that idea.... and that cake looks SO yummy. I love chocolate.

@kirabee- I'm not artistic enough for that and none of my friends are very crafty either... :(

After over 3k of images of cake toppers, I had just about gave up, then I came across this blown glass heart.  It was perfect, it was relatively inexpensive and we could customize the colors to what we wanted.  We also had a choice of making it a stand or a stem to insert into the cake.

We like the idea that it will be a keepsake we can use in the garden or on our mantle.

It was either that, or Mr. Holiday was threatening to buy these!

I feel like we made the right decision and these people have been just wonderful to work with.

I absolutely loooooove the military birds.. I think you could totally display those and they are so awesome they would be worth the money.  It's so special to honor his service like that!

Yeah, I really liked them, but $120 is a bit too much for a cake topper in my opinion.
