The FI and I are having trouble finding an affordable string quartet…by affordable, we mean $500 for an hour of their time. My FI used to play in a string quartet for weddings and remembers charging less than that in the Spokane area but we can’t seem to find anyone.
Please, please, does anyone have any recommendations?

I do! I am trying to find a portland cellist
try http://effesenden.com/ my wedding planner reccomended them and they responded fast! Still a bit out of our budget for one cellist but i think this sounds like a fair price for a quartet!
we put an ad on craigslist and got nothing! We might try hiring students next I guess the cellists in Portland just don’t look for work on Craigslist! Good luck!

We are using Collage Music and the grand total for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception is around $1500 so you might be able to get a string quartet in your budget.

Hiring students can be risky-you might get a total beginner or someone who’s talented but inexperienced with playing gigs.
You might check your local music shops to see if they have recommendations. Also, call local college music departments and see if they have recommendations or a bulletin board you could post a flyer on.
