Ah, this is a tough one. The thing is, even lower-colored diamond melee will look whiter than your center stone due to the size (the eye sees them as bright white flashes). This may or may not bother you, it’s hard to tell.

I know that a lot of vendors can custom order I/J melee, you’ll have to call and ask about whether they have access to L/M as well.

Even if you got a wedding band made with lower-colored diamonds, you would probably still be able to see a color difference. Smaller diamonds will always face up whiter than larger diamonds of the same color, so small diamonds like you’d see in a wedding band will be small flashes of white light. Many places won’t make a custom band with those color diamonds because the bands can end up looking dingy (in their words — my center stone is an M, so I went through this whole process trying to find a low-color wedding band).

If the color difference is going to bother you, I would recommend doing a plain metal band, maybe with some engraving. When I asked the Pricescope forum what they recommended, they said doing baguette or french cut stones in a band would help to minimize the color difference, but those bands are very, very expensive.

I think it actually might be a nice contrast to have the warm diamond against a whiter wedding band!

@loving_life:  I agree. When the stone is obviously a lower color, I think it’s best to embrace it! I LOVE the contrast of lower and higher colored diamonds.

@mousiegirl:  Ahhhhhh. SO jealous. I am crazy in love with AVCs and AVRs. You must post tons of pics when you get your beauty!

Almost  every jewelry store will  let you step outside (with them)  to see the stone under natural light.  I’ve even asked and received permission to take draperies outside at JC Penneys to see what the ‘real’ color is.  A not busy time of the day works best.  Might not tho, if you are trying on a $10,000 diamond.
