My friendship with a couple ladies from college begin to dwindle during my engagement. I made the mistake of asking my ladies when I first got engaged and so I was pretty much stuck with them. Movies and television really led me to be heartbroken. My ladies were not really interested in anything wedding related. I had to beg them to buy their dresses, no one threw a shower, bachel. party, nothing.

One friend in particular stopped asking me to do things during the engagement. She later told me that I had a "good man" so I shouldn't want to go out. Meanwhile she broke up with the father of her child and began looking for replacement dads and her own husband. I know there was a twinge of jealousy but she really let it show.

For her best friends wedding she went all out with her hair, makeup, and nails. She bought her a gift and everything. For my wedding day, she wore pumps with her dress when everyone else had strappy dressy sandals. She didn't do her hair, makeup, or nails. I didn't ask them too but it's like c'mon. She complained about my photographer the whole time because she wasn't taking the traditional 'line everyone up for posing' photos and making sure everyone's baby hairs were in place. She was constantly texting someone or adding statuses to her twitter and left after the ceremony without telling me to pick up her daughter. She acted bored the entire time. Even my husband is mad at her for the way she acted.

Anyway, i'm just venting but choose your bridesmaids carefully and forget etiquette. Kick a bridesmaid out if they can't even pretend to be the least bit excited. Everytime I look at my pics I remember the way she acted.

That's awful.. I have come to the conclusion that a lot of this behavior is one because of jealously and two because they have not been married. Sometimes people can't grasp the importance of your big day if they haven't been in the situation as a bride. They don't realize the money and time and emotions invested in it.

I actually had some bridesmaids that I didn't think would be that involved and blew me away with all there work and support. So sometimes it is hard to tell how certain friends will react to all the wedding stuff.

Uggg.  You know how "traditionally" bridesmaids have been single?  I think brides ahve better luck if they're married, already.  Less likely to have jealous ones.

In fact I think sometimes brides would do better to rent BMs.  "Happily married, experienced, thoughtful, creative bridesmaid for rent.   Will travel."  I bet a lot of bees on here would be happier.

haha, @Tanya123 I love that idea! A couple of professional, experienced BMs could replace a DOC.
