Yes I just commented in another thread. It was beautiful, and clearly well made, but there are so many already like it out there. I really thought with all the resources at her fingers, she'd have a dress that was really beautiful, classic, AND interesting and one of a kind. There was just nothing "special" about it to me. I am disappointed. :(

@ohheavenlyday: dissapointed is a good way to put how I feel as well... so much hype... and then... that's it? I'm not into this royal wedding thing but I saw the dress and feel like I'm missing the big love affair here.

I think it's better than I expected to be, but not great. The bodice is good, the skirt not so good. And it's a bit too understated.

    @HappilyEverAfter54:

I blame my own high expectations. I think in my head I was expecting a dress of spun platinum and gold or something. It was a VERY pretty dress, but for a royal wedding, I just expected something... MORE.

@shaunna: petticoat would have helped that skirt (a lot)

I commented in another thread that it was a little underwhelming.  Obviously we can't see all the details on TV, but it needed a much larger skirt, waayyy longer train and veil the same length.  It just wasn't grand enough for the occasion.

@missyjane77: Same here! She doesn't have an "over the top" kind of style so I wouldn't have expected her dress to be that way. Her dress fits her character, as far as we see it, and looked gorgeous on her!

I just commented on another thread as well. I agree that it was kind of a let down when you are expecting a new trend to give you something you have seen already, many times. It was timeless and classic but it was also timeless and classic when grace kelly wore it. I was more impressed that she wore a short veil with a long train

I thought her dress was perfect considering the formality of the ceremony and venue. She is taking her new station in life very seriously, which I think is part of the reason she chose the dress she did. When William becomes king, they'll show clips of their wedding again, and her dress will look classic and regal.

I actually saw Princess Diana's dress in person, and I wasn't impressed with her dress at all. It looked much more impressive on TV.

I wonder too though if she picked a dress that matched the economy over there. Things are still rough in England. Maybe something a bit understated and conservative was in line with the mood of the country?

@MrsNeutrino: I think that was just the seams of the dress (badly placed though, I agree).

@Loribeth: I agree. She probably did not want something that would look dated in the future- although she is generally innovative fashion-wise ...now is not the time to get really fashion forward.

If you google royal wedding in the past decades, none of them are really over the top. They are mostly conservative-chic.

@Loribeth: I agree, I am not a fan of sleeves on wedding dresses, but I really loved hers- I imagine that the dresses needed to cover as much as possible as it is a very serious and regal event. Her dress was not over the top, it was classy, elegant and well, fit for a Queen- loved it, o and her sisters dress- so pretty as well.

I thought she looked perfectly regal. It would have been ridiculous to have something bigger. I've always thought Diana's dress was ugly, poofy, and absolutely ridiculous, even for the 80s.

She looked like everything a princess should be.

It appeared common. Pretty, but a bit boring.

Did anyone else hear that this was a $425K dress? Is that right? That can't be right..

I wasn't impressed. It's a beautiful dress, don't get me wrong, but I feel like she could have picked something that was a little more true to herself while keeping with tradition. It was compared to Grace Kelly's dress and i think she could have picked something more one-of-a-kind.

Here's what I'm thinking: We're so used to the dresses we see on magazines, the Bee, dresses in stores and our own. A lot of these dresses are over the top, lots of bling, lace, puffy, ball gown, mermaid, cristals, beaded sashes, and a lot just want to make a statement (well, not all this at the same time XD). Maybe we were expecting something like that and even more spectacular than that, BUT, if she had tried to top all...she would have looked ridiculous.

I'm glad she chose the dress she chose, I'm glad she didn't choose to top it all. The dress is still beautiful, she looks like herself and she's wearing the dress, not the other way around.

Maybe this will say something to other brides: to look like a princess you don't have to be over the top. Simplicity and elegance can be royal too.

Was anyone else not too impressed with Kates dress? : wedding La Modella Mafia Grace Kelly Wedding Dress

Her dress reminds me of Grace Kelly's wedding dress, just the lace, corset, shape, but modern! I love it!

I thought her dress was very pretty. Although I guess I wasn't looking closely enough to see the wardrobe malfunction. But I wasn't impressed. Loved the sleeves. I was going to have a bolero attached to my dress before I remembered I'm getting married in July.

Did anyone notice when they were coming back up the aisle, Princess Kate (or Catherine) was looking at Prince William and he was looking at the floor. I know he's not crazy out there but could you steal a few glances at your bride, please?

His concentration was literally putting one foot in front of the other in a straight line. For the UK brides, can you tell me if he's supposed to walk that way or is he camera shy?

What most people think of as "Princess" a princess would never ever wear. Found some details about the lace

"The lace appliqué for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework, based at Hampton Court Palace. The lace design was hand-engineered (appliquéd) using the Carrickmacross lace-making technique, which originated in Ireland in the 1820s. Individual flowers have been hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create a unique and organic design, which incorporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock.

Hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace has been used throughout the bodice and skirt, and has been used for the underskirt trim. With laces coming from different sources, much care was taken to ensure that each flower was the same colour. The whole process was overseen and put together by hand by Ms Burton and her team."
