So...my boyfriend and I of 4 years went and looked at rings about a month or so ago. No big thing as far as I was concerned. We had done that before and nothing had come of it. But this time was different. He was asking a lot of questions and was just really engaged with the sales lady. I found one that I fell in love with and the sales lady wrote down the style number on her card and we were off. So the other day (we had just gotten snow) I stayed home all day and he took my car to work to be safe. I was bored by the time he got home and wanted to do some after Christmas sale shopping so he said "ok, lets go to the mall". This was clue #1 as he doesn't like shopping. Then he proceeded to say "we can visit your ring". This was clue #2 b/c he hates when I drag him into jewelry stores. After I visited my ring and tried it on and stared at it for a good 5 minutes he kept looking antsy so I said "I'm going to go look over there at some gemstone jewelry". He stayed behind and talked to the sales lady. I tried to avert my eyes but when I looked up I noticed they had moved over to the register! I wasn't sure that he had put the ring on layaway but the last time he did something like this I ended up getting the diamond heart necklace we looked at for Christmas (this was a few years back). I know this is kinda bad...but I knew how much money he had to begin w/before we left for the mall...and when we got home I realized he had $300 less than he had before. (He leaves his money on the table in case I need to borrow some.) So at this point I was 90% sure that he had put the ring on layaway. Then this morning I said "I know there's one way to be sure"...so I looked in his nightstand where he keeps his paystubs (I know this b/c when I clean the house this is where I put them) and there was the layaway receipt!!! I know, I know...it was wrong of me to do all this investigating to figure it out but my thing is, if he wanted to keep it a secret...then don't put the ring on layaway right in front of me! Also, I had to know for sure b/c if a year went by and still no proposal I would have been really upset for thinking he did it when he really didn't. Anyways, I'm going to be engaged sometime within the next year! I'm SO excited!!!

Congrats to you! thats very exciting.... I knew my hubs had bought the ring when i was looking for something in his planner and he had an appointment with our jeweler written in. Then the weekend before he proposed, which was weeks later,  he told me he "had to go into the city" on saturday. When i asked if i could come, he told me no. Then he proceeds to run into one of my good guy friends and my brother on the street in the jewelry district. The conversation went like this "hey I ran into Jon the other day" "oh where" "on Jewlers row" hmmmmm.... I wonder what he was doing there.....It still turned out to be a wonderful proposal.

I have a hunch that my boyfriend ordered the ring this week, but I'm not 100% sure. He mentioned that he was probably going to order the setting (we already have the stone) soon, but I have no clues that show if he actually has got it or not.

In any case, that all sounds really exciting! Congrats!

    Very exciting!!

I actually had no idea when he got the ring.  I knew that we were going to get engaged "sometime in the next year" (as he said).  He said he was out playing golf with his friends each time he went to the jeweler (once to design it, and again to pick it up).  It wasn't anything out of the ordinary, so I wasn't suspicious... but you can bet I will be the next time he goes and plays golf!  haha

    Congratulations.

We got engaged a year ago tomorrow ;) and it was in New York. On the way there when walking into the departure lounge they were doing further security checks on hand luggage so we both stepped up and mine was done first. Luckily I didn't see but he told me after the lady took a bag out of his ruck sack and when she saw it was a ring box inside she panicked and shoved the whole thing back and said to him 'oh yes that's fine' think she thought she had blown it.

I knew excatly when it was coming b/c the ball was kind of more in my court.

My husband would ask things like "do you want to be engaged" or "are you happy with the way things are" and at the time I was, I still wasn't ready. Well one day I woke up and knew without a doubt that I wanted to make the marriage commitment. I told him, and w/in a month we were engaged.

He also gave away so many signs right after he got the ring in his hands, because we would sit on the couch and he would always rub on my left ring finger (he later told me he was worried about my ring size & wanted to make sure he got the right size, which was obvious to me, haha!) He also spent alot of extra time in the bathroom, and he later told me that is where he had it hidden and he would go in there to stare at it and get all ancy just wanting to give it to me right then and there.

We later planned a trip back to our college town for my birthday, and on the drive down there he was sooooo nervous, and I can read him so well, so I knew it was going to happen. He proposed w/in mins of getting into town at the same spot where we met :)

    Congrats!

I had no clue that my hubby got the ring or that a proposal was coming. I actually have talked to his mom about the jewelry that they have in the family, and she told me where all of the rings were (it was during his grandma's funeral so it randomly came up), and it seemed to me that the rings were all spoken for and he'd have to buy me a ring, which kind of bumbed me out b/c I love antiques and family rings. I didn't realize that his mom was willing to hand over her engagement ring, which was originally hubby's great grandma's. So all he had to do was call her, tell her he wanted it, met with his dad for lunch to get it, and that weekend he proposed.

Well...I'm kind of a jewish snoop and had an idea it was coming.

My mother had mentioned to me that she had offered my nana's diamond if he wanted it, so that was the first clue. Thanks ma.

Then she called him one day and he ran down stairs to answer the phone...very suspicious. When I called him out on it he made some lame excuse.

Then I snooped through my mom's phone when I was with her and found some texts. He took her to the jeweler and they were discussing when he would pick her up.

I also caught him looking at a picture on his phone. I couldn't make out what it was but it sort of looked like the side view of a ring.

I was still totally surprised since we hadn't looked for rings together...he picked it with my mother which I thought was sweet and he did a great job.

I had no clue, we had looked at rings while on vacation a few weeks before, and we wrote a few style numbers down, but I had no clue that when we got back into town, that a few days later he would go buy his favorite, and propose on our 4yr dating anniv. I am still shocked, and we have been married almost 3 months now.

But, having said all that, looking back I guess there were signs, like him paying more attention to certain specifics about rings, texting me a million times the day we got engaged, him being giddy & rushing me to get ready to go out to dinner, 'leaving' his wallet in his truck, and then talking about rings at dinner, telling me we were going to go look at more, but then stopped at a local lake so we could sit and enjoy the weather instead, and then popped the question!

    Congrats!

I was pretty aware it was coming because whenever he drank a little too much he would blurt out things like "You are gonna be so surprised when I prospose" but that started months before he actually did. The real give away was when we were on vacation and he had a few beers and said "I would be proposing to you right now if your fingers weren't so small, your damn ring is taking 5 months!". It was pretty funny. I told him the next morning and he didnt remember. He can't keep any secrets! Btw...my FI is not an alcoholic :)

Well, I got a huge clue but completely didn't get it! One day a parking fine arrives in the mail and it's one of those with a photo of your car snapped by a traffic camera. The photo shows his car outside the jewellry store - and I didn't get it!

How thick am I not to realize? I didn't look at the store front behind the car though, I was just looking at how the car was parked and how much the fine was....

My FI totally thought he was busted but it wasn't until after he proposed that I put 2 and 2 together.

I knew pretty much everything... except when he went to pick it up, ha!  We went to the store three times... the first time was to pick out what I liked.  I had 2 in mind, but I couldn't stop thinking about one of them, so we went back again a few weeks later and I made my decision which one I wanted.  He didn't give any hints to which one he was going to get, but I knew he would get the one I couldn't stop talking about ;)  The third time was after he had just gotten a big promotion and I went w/ him to the store, but I wasn't allowed in the room w/ the consultant so DUH I knew they were discussing finances.   He wouldn't tell me what they talked about etc but he did tell him he told the lady when he would need it by.  We had talked about how I wanted him to propose w/ some of my family around, b/c I don't see them that often, and we were going away in about a month so I figured it was coming then.  He picked up the ring a few days before we went on our weekend trip and I didn't know he got it, but assumed.  He proposed the next day when we were at my family's cabin... :)  It was so nice to share it with my family even though I knew it was coming.

I had no clue at all. My FI and I had been together 6 years but we always talked about getting engaged once I was finished my internship. So we never went ring shopping and every time I brought up weddings he would shrug it off and say thats a long ways away. So when he proposed I was utterly shocked as it came a year earlier than we had always talked about. IT was a great surprise.

I had no idea at all that my FI bought a ring and had no idea that the proposal was coming.  We pretty much knew we would get married.  We openly talked about marriage and being engaged, but never really set a time line.  I was actually nervous that I'd have to be the one to propose one day because I didn't think he'd have the nerve to do it.  It took him a very long time to ask me to be his girlfriend (poor thing, he gets so nervous!) so I figured it would be nearly impossible for him to ask me to marry him.  I had absolutely no idea that he bought a ring.  He went with his mom to pick it out and even asked my parents for their blessing.  I was clueless the whole time!

The artist who made my ring called me to congratulate me on getting engaged....an entire month before my fiance proposed. He didn't know that I wasn't asked yet so needless to say I knew a proposal was coming! Oops!

I didn't think we'd get engaged as quickly as we did and I certainly didn't expect a ring.  I was 19 and pregnant and he was just getting his business really underway.  I had no idea that his mother offered him the family stone.  I was shocked when I received it and consider myself extremely loved by his parents since they gave the family stone to us.

I actually went and picked it out with him. He was a little disappointed that I knew what it looked like though. We went to look in late August (I think) and the salesman mentioned something about the clearance price ending on it at the end of that week. Soo that made it kind of obvious..but I pretended like I wasn't listening. He had it for a whole 7 months before he proposed!

I had no idea... thank god!!  Because he bought the ring in August and didn't propose until NYE!  He's a good secret keeper I guess, although he said it was hard for him to not tell me because I'm his best friend.  :)  He can be quite sweet sometimes.

I did know when he got my ring. We went ring shopping a year before he actually bought the ring. I found two styles that I absolutely fell in love with. He told me that he wouldn't choose either of those, because he wanted to choose my ring. Right after Thanksgiving, my mom spilled the beans that he had gotten the diamond from her. We came back home in July and we were going to go to an outdoor play that night. He said he had to drop me off at home because he had some special business to take care of with his dad. That was a major hint!

He then proposed in August. He surprised me by coming into town when I wasn't expecting him. He proposed with one of the rings that I fell in love with :-).

Yep I knew, just didn't know for sure if it was going to happen when thought was. We had went to go get my earrings he had gotten me couple of years before and looked at rings.  This was a week before my birthday!

That week from when we looked at ring til the day of my birthday was on pins and needles.  And yep I got the ring that I loved for my birthday.

I didn't know he bought a ring, but we had been together for 5 years and I had a hunch. the hunch was so strong that the day before my birthday, I painted my nails just in case :)

he did not propose, and we went out of town as planned for that weekend. I chided myself for assuming so much and told myself I should not be so disappointed. I should consider myself lucky I have such a great boyfriend and not worry about it!

the day we got back from our trip, he waited for me to put my suitcase down and then proposed! it turns out he chickened out and decided he wanted to do it in the privacy of our home. it was kind of perfect-- he completely caught me off guard and so it was a surprise after all!

I knew he was looking because we had looked together. But he kept hinting that he wouldnt make a purchase until spring. Before Christmas we went to all of these jewlers together, and he was asking tons of questions but  little did i know he had already bought the ring. That really threw me off and i was so surprised when it actually happened!

I knew he was actively trying to purchase and get his hands on the ring, but I didn't know he had it and it wasn't obvious. DH was really good at pretending like he didn't have it, he was extremely convincing. Of course we only had about 1 week between the time he got it and when he proposed. But he knew I wouldn't find otu because I don't go through his stuff.

We looked at rings together about a month before he proposed, and then one morning he tried to be nonchalant and asked what my ring size. I mean, come on, why else would he want my ring size?

Sure enough, 2 weeks later, he proposed! :)
