Was that rude of my MIL?

First, hell yes that was rude of her. You cannot invite yourself, let alone your entire family, over to someone’s house without checking with them first. That is very rude. I think I would ask you husband to contact his mother and explain that they should have checked with you both first and that you would prefer not to host an event you weren’t expecting, especially with a baby. I’m sorry, that is not cool!

ETA: What I meant (reading it it doesn’t sound right) is that you can’t invite yourself or anyone to someone else’s house period. No questions asked. If she wanted to get together and send a mass text, she could have asked for suggestions of where to go or offered to host herself. Rude!

SamanthaLovesJames:  Of course it was rude of her. She can invite people over to her home- not someone else’s.

SamanthaLovesJames:  If you really don’t want to host, and your hhsband won’t stand up to his Mom, send another email to the group and tell them that you checked your calendar and see that you have a previous commitment and won’t be able to host.

You could suggest that perhaps MIL could host at her place.

Go out to a friend’s place and let your husband host them 🙂

EDIT: I meant this as a joke, but on reflection, I think you should seriously consider doing this if your husband won’t man up and cancel.

Have you asked your husband if he agreed to this and maybe forgot to tell you?

Random…feels like there’s a piece of the story missing. Did hubby maybe mention something as PP said?
