- Wedding: July 2010
I had an AWFUL time with my vendor!!! Just awful. At one point he was screaming at me (literally YELLING) at me about how i didnt understand how a contract worked etc. Basically they lost their liquor license so we got to get our own (yeah!!) but bc of their loss they tried to get more money out of us, they ….well I think the letter explains it.
“To whom ever it may concern
Please find enclosed our full and final payment for our wedding that was held in Theas Lounge on July 24, 2010.
I would have liked to thank you for letting us have our wedding there and for making wedding planning such a pleasant experience. I would truly very much with all my heart like to do that, but I simply can not.
We booked Theas Lounge in December for our July wedding and were expecting some level of professionalism. Theas has hosted meetings and functions there before and we thought that this would be a great place to work with. However, over the next few months we dealt with nothing but unpleasantness from the staff at the Graduate Centre, including ***********and **** (the food and beverage guy, who is no longer there). The lack of communication between the two was appalling and sent me in a tail spin of contacting one or the other only to be referred to one or the other.
I understand that Koerners Pub lost their liquor license which in turn affected us. We were told that we could purchase our own liquor license and provide our own beverages, and all other services would still be provided. Unfortunately, Theas lounge did not want to make it easy on us. Once Theas lounge had lost their license I started getting phone calls and emails from ***** saying I had to pay for the bar, pay to use the wine glasses, pay to use the ice machine, pay for a supervisor and the list goes on and on. These were things that were already included in the rental cost as per the contract.(minus the supervisor which we agreed wasn’t necessary) I realize that Koerners was losing thousands of dollars a month because they had to close but re-cooping costs through clients that had already signed an agreement with you is simply unprofessional.
I “spoke” with **** about the issues I was having about our contract not being held up. In the contract we were allowed to use the bar as that cost was included in the overall rental fee. My husband and I even offered to still hire Koerner Pub bartenders (even though we had no obligation to at this point) to help out GSS. ****would always say it wasn’t him but “them” that wanted to charge more etc. I still to this day do not know who was trying to break a legally binding contract. I say I “spoke” with **** about these issues because it was actually a disaster of a yelling match over the phone with ***** screaming at me telling me I didn’t understand what he had done for me, or that I don’t understand what a contract is. How disgusting and unprofessional the entire conversation was. I was not fighting for anything extra, all I ever wanted the entire time was what we had originally signed for!
To save myself stress we agreed that we would just rent our own wine glasses (even though **** had said we could use theirs). After many emails and upsetting phone calls **** agreed to let us use the bar again and he paid for the supervisor. (we had under 100 people at the function and two bartenders so a supervisor was not necessary as per the GSS contract). ****’s “generosity” of giving back what was originally ours in the first place helped make our wedding run much smoother, but to get to that point was an emotional and stressful disaster.
**** did allow us to come to Theas on the Friday before the wedding to decorate. He was super helpful that day getting the projector out for us and asking where to set it up etc. The room was hot while we were decorating which gave us a little insight as to how it was going to be on the wedding day. We asked **** about fans and he said there would be some for the head table “for sure” and he would leave them out. The day of our wedding we arrived at our reception and found that there were no fans. We spoke to the bartenders asking if they knew about them and they said that ***** didn’t leave them out for them and that they had no idea where they were.
We spoke to**** about this on the Monday after the wedding. He told us we should have asked the bartenders and then said “oh you should have called me”, when I told him I was at my wedding reception and the fact of the matter was he forgot he just smiled and said “yeah….oops!”
Dealing with Theas, or more *****, created a lot of unnecessary stress. I have never dealt with so much unprofessionalism in my life. We were treated more as an inconvenience than customers. I am currently working as an event planner and it breaks my heart that I cannot, nor will I ever recommend using GSS for anything. I hope this letter drastically improves the level of service provided by Theas lounge.
On an end note, I would like to mention that Reza was absolutely fabulous though, especially under the circumstances, he was incredibly helpful and accommodating. As well, the two bartenders we had that night were superb!
