The answer is very individual in my opinion. First and foremost, try to accept it either way because the stress alone of worrying about it affects your milk supply (again, my experience). If you pump as much a possible with as powerful a pump as you can get (hospital grade if you aren't already), you can possibly get your supply back; however, you may not get all the way back. It is worth a shot for about a month but again, do your best to not stress (so hard to do when you are working so hard and have no control).
This past week we finally started supplementing because I had zero freezer supply left and wasn't getting enough each day/night to make up what DS drank. Once I did that and accepted it, my milk has gotten better, which I largely attribute to letting go of trying so hard and being upset by it. I still nurse him morning and evening/night and I pump at work and whatever I get is great and if I don't get enough in a day, well, then he gets a bottle.
I totally sympathize and wish you the absolute best of luck.
I experianced a dip in my suplpy while stressing over a precedure I was having done. What worked for me was I stopped caring. Well I still cared, but tried to surpress the urgency to pump X number of oz's a little. After a few days of increased pumping and nursing my supply returned to normal. I am unable to take anything with fenugreek due to my thyriod condition and DS's allergies, so I had to use pumping/nursing as my only methods to increase supply. I also considered renting a hospital grade pump, but after giving it a few days, determined that that was not necessary since my supply went back to normal.
Good luck! Don't give up!! A temperary dip in supply does not mean you are no longer producing or that your supply will not bounce back or bounce back some! I'm sure in a few days things should start to pick back up for you!
The mennonite ladies in my community swear by pumpkin to increase milk supply. I don't know why but it does seem to help them. I was skeptical at first but they seem to double what they are able to pump after just two days. If that happened to just one lady I would say coincidence but I have seen about a dozen ladies have the same result so I thought it worth mentioning. Maybe Pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread,or pumpkin soup at every meal?
@secondchances: Yumm! Pumpkin obsession here! I could totally live off that diet :)
One thing I remember in school when we were covering Aromatherapy was that farmers (back in the day) would rub fennel oil on cow udders to help with milk supply. The same thing works with humans!
You can make a massage oil blend by using 50ml Grapeseed oil, 20 drops fennel essential oil and 10 drops clary sage essential oil. Mix these together and store in a brown glass bottle and massage into the breasts at least 3-4 times/ day in a circular movement. Make sure you buy pure essential oils that are not diluted.
Sounds like maybe nonalcoholic beer would be worth a try? Not sure...
pump, pump, pump! You should be able to increase your supply by demanding more!

DS is 7 months old. He takes about 16 ounces of BM from a bottle, and nurses in the am and 2-3 times in the evening.
I went home sick on Friday, with an awful cold that came on suddenly and strongly. I took some cold meds and a unisom to sleep. DH gave DS pumped milk from a bottle. I slept most of Saturday and Sunday so DS took a lot of milk from bottles and I didn't pump enough to keep up.
Now I'm back to work and can barely pump anything. First thing in the am before DS nurses, I get about 4-5 ounces (used to be that much on each side!) I usually pump 4 times at work and can't get more than an ounce per breast (if that) each time. Usually I'd pump 10-14 ounces at work, in addition to the 8-10 from the early morning and I would have plenty for DS while at daycare.
My freezer stash is running out (about a week of milk left), and I'm already drinking mother's milk tea and taking fenugreek. I take 4-610mg tabs 4 times a day. I'm guzzling water and trying to eat healthy. Is this a dip that I will bounce back from if I keep at it, or is it possible that I've lost my supply for good? I don't know what else to do. DS has very little tolerance for nursing right now since there is hardly any milk for him, especially in the evenings.
