I am going to make my own dress. I am only in the planning phase now, because I want to lose a LOT of weight before I get married. We are eloping, and not in a huge rush. So time is on my side!
I was wondering, I would like glass pearls (the real thing is too expensive) on my dress and plan to make fabric flowers to sew on and lace too, how would I wash the dress. I would like to wash it before I wear it and afterwards.
Any suggestions welcome!
Thank you and be blessed!

Hand wash gently in a bath tub with mild soap, maybe? I once hand made a dress and I just washed each individual thing by hand, made it, then gently steamed it (left in bathroom with hot shower on) to get the wrinkles out. I didn’t wash it as a whole, but I think if your gentle enough and leave it to air dry it *should* be okay.

maybe you could hand wash your materials before you sew the dress…IDK

If you were looking to machine wash, I would definitely do the following: pretreat any stains (hemline, spills, etc.), turn it inside out, place in large mesh washing bag and use a mild detergent like Woolex or Perwoll. If you have a good washer (not sure I’d trust an old school top loader with something like that), choose one of the gentle settings and cool water, and do several extra rinses to make sure all the detergent residue is washed out. After that spin on the lowest setting and air dry, making sure the weight of the damp dress doesn’t stretch it out on the hanger.

Keekers: Thank you for the advice
cranraspberry: Thank you, I was considering to do it in the machine. Our machine has a hand wash setting. I will lay it down to dry maybe… Then steam it once dry…
