I think the reason for that suggestion is to make the hair less slippery when the stylist pins it up. Or to help the hair hold a curl. How are you styling your hair? I know it'll be down, but will it be curled? Any bobby pins?
yeah, generally hair holds it's curl better when it's not freshly washed. so it depends on if you're curling it or not.
sorry, those were the completely wrong pics(but beautiful still!)
it will be more like this..
I have recently been reading in bridal and hairstyle magazines that says with all the products out there now that those products can provide enough hold and style so you CAN wash your hair the day of. Personally I do not want my hair to steal the show, yuck.
i am wearing my hair down. i have to wash my hair everyday for thickness. i have thin hair i just hope the style holds all night.
i always wash my hair, but it holds curl easily so it's not a problem. does your hair hold curl well? if not, it might be safer not to wash.
I have mid-length thick hair. For me, my hair always looks better the second style around... i.e. I washed my hair one day and it dried, set it and went on with my day. The next day after I style it looks the best. I set my hair with large hot rollers and for me it looks better one day after wash.
I think Mrs. Bee is right--if your hair holds curl well, then I think washing it should be fine. I'd also check with the person who's going to be doing your hair on the wedding day to see what he/she thinks.
Hmmmm...I'm totally opposite! My hair doesn't hold curl very well and is naturally straight. If I don't curl right after I wash it, it doesn't hold at all! It hardly even curls~!!!
The reason we tell you not to wash your hair the day of is because hair that isn't freshly washed styles better. If you are worried about your hair looking greasy, wash its the night before, and if you have lighter hair, put some baby powder on your roots, if you have darker hair, get some dry shampoo. You'll be much happier with the way your hair stays. Promise!
I'd check with your stylist and see what he or she prefers.
Side note: I just fell in love with that calla lilly bouquet and half updo!
I have fine hair that gets dirty very quickly, so I can't stand going one day w/o washing my hair. At the suggestion of my stylist, I wash my hair before she styles it for events, but I put a lot of product in it while it's still damp. I wore my hair down and curled for the wedding...my hair does not hold curl well, so we used clip-in hair pieces to add fullness. They looked great and nobody could tell that it wasn't my real hair!
If you do wash your hair in the morning, make sure it's COMPLETELY dry by the time you get to the salon!
I'm a stylist, I recommend checking with your stylist as to what she prefers. I hate when people give me dirty hair, the night before is ok, but i feel like i can make the hair dirty myself so why do they not have to wash it. I plan on washing mine the night before so it's all ready to go. Just don't do any deep conditioning treatments the week of, it will make your hair too heavy, and greasy.
My stylist told me that for up dos and down dos the "don't wash your hair" thing is not true. He said its a gimmick. And he said he hates working with dirty hair. Who knows!
I always wash my hair before up dos anyways. I'm a blonde and if I don't it looks greasy.
I think it really depends on your hair type though too. I have fine-ish hair. Lots of it, but fine. My hair actually is easier to style when it's squeeky clean. If my hair is a day dirty the natural oils start to weigh my hair down. :o( And I definitely can't go 2 days without washing...it looks greasy. Do whats best for your hair type.
I personally don't agree with the "don't wash your hair the day of" instructions. I am of course Biased since my hair is thin and blonde, gets greasy easily. I think it's just easier for the stylist to work with, but it runs the risk of smelling bad or looking gross.
I am wearing my hair all down, and my stylist told me the night before is OK, just to make sure to blow it out. And she said she likes it when there is some product in the hair already from said blowout, because then she has to add less.
I too have wondered about this question. My hairdresser said that it would be better if I didn't wash it, but if washing my hair makes me more comfortable, then go ahead. I don't want to have a greasy head at my own wedding, so I am more than willing to suffer a bit of wilting. I say, go ahead if you will be more comfortable.
I have a lot of blonde hair (and its pretty long). Even though there's lots of it, it's actually really fine. If that makes sense- lots of fine, blonde hair. It looks awful if I don't wash it every day. And I hate it when stylists won't wash it. It's about you feeling your best too. Everyone is different- there's zero way I could go 1-2 days without washing, I've even bought Oscar Blandi dry shampoo and it doesn't work.
For my wedding my stylist told me it was okay to wash my hair, but to not use conditioner and to make sure my hair was completely dry before the appointment. And it worked, because the curls lasted all day! I hope this helps.
it's also the frizziness. With more oils, the hair naturally looks sleak and tidy, so with up-dos, you want to avoid the frizzy look! (Unless it's a messy updo kind of thing)~ but if you leave the hair down completely, (which is what I did!! yay for hair down) I'd still consult with your stylist!
Your stylist who is familiar with your hair texture, health and condition will be best to advise you, since I assume most of us here on the board have never met you or touched your hair, your stylist would be the best person to consult with about what he/she recommends about hair washing!
I produce more oils naturally, so I just washed it the night before~ my hair is also (or was..)colored and treated chemically in the past, and I also have a natural wave in my hair~ so my curls (similar to the 2nd photo you posted) stayed with no problem!!! but again, it still really depends!

i know that stylists recommend "second-day" hair for updos, but does the same apply if you're wearing your hair down? It won't be half up, it will be DOWN and I feel like I should wash it the morning of. Anyone have experience with this?
