I haven’t given birth yet, but I’m hoping that I can use the tub at the hospital for labor and delivery.

I’ve never been pregnant before but I want to do a water birth, too.  My nephew was born in a water birth.

We’re considering a home water birth and are attending a class/seminar about it with a midwife next month.  Watch The Business of Being Born, there are several home water births in the movie.

Hospitals with tubs usually let you labor in the tub, but when it’s time to push they make you get in bed.  If you want to birth in water, I think you need a birth center or home birth.

I would love to have a water birth too! I really liked “The Business of Being Born.”

Like @realeastcoaster: mentioned, Mrs. Avocado blogged about her water birth! She also has a picture video up and it is breathtaking! http://www.thatwifeblog.com

I had two home waterbirths after birthing my first in a hospital. I’m done with my baby birthing, but I wouldn’t do it any other way!

Have to meet the hubs for lunch, but I’ll come back to this thread. 🙂

Oh, wanna know what was so cool about my nephew’s birth.  When my brother’s gf gave birth, my nephew came out still in the sac. The had to break the sac while he was outside of her.  I didn’t see it but apparently it’s very uncommon and their midwife says she’s never seen one since she’s been midwifery (sp?).  They didn’t video tape it but there is a youtube video of one. (I’m warning you, it’s a bit graphic.) http://www.youtube.com/verify_age?next_url=http%3A//www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D3npxGfBHWbk

I think if I do a water bath, it would be cool to video tape it.  That would be my one exception to photo or videos being in the room during active pushing.

Great…I just spent an hour reading thatwife.com.  NO work is getting done around here, LOL.

I would like to do this and have for as long as I can remember.

I am a HUGE bath person, so I always thought that it sounded neat. One thing to consider…is the bacteria. If you fill a plastic tub like that wife….it does not get drained. So it is stagnate water…that is warm and a great breeding ground for yucking things. She also peeded in it a lot. She actually ended up getting an infection after birth.

I am in now way discouraging a home water birth, but I just wanted to mention this so you know.  I had NEVER thought about the “bacteria breeding ground” until she gave birth, had an infection, and then I looked online. She actually got a mild form of e-coli.

There may be ways to avoid this…not sure how….but just wanted to mention this so you have all the facts.

I would personally like the idea of something more like a big bathtub. That way the old “yucky” water could get drained and then refilled with new clean water

Her blog is thatwifeblog.com.

@nyebride: Me too! I got nothing done for the last couple hours of work. And I was near tears in part 5 of the birth story!
