On Monday I called Priscilla of Boston to find out when my dress (1079b) was supposed to come in. I knew that it was supposed to be in May and as we're approaching the last week, I wanted to know when I was going to get the phone call letting me know it was finally here. They tried calling "factory" to see what the hold up was and kept leaving messages. Factory never got back to them and finally yesterday I was told that Watters has gone bankrupt! They told me not to worry because by contract, any dress bought by PoB from Watters is guaranteed. So, my dress is supposedly guaranteed to come in with enough time for fittings (I'm getting married 8/9/08). But, they still do not know when it's going to come in (they said they are in contact though to get an exact date for all their Watters brides). They also said the hold up for the dress was that it was backordered. I ordered the dress in early October.
I'm not freaking out yet, but I am still wary of trusting that PoB will get my dress in. Has anyone else heard that Watters has gone bankrupt? I tried googling but I didn't find anything (I think it's privately owned, so no Investor Relations).
Also, if this is all true, at what point to I panic and start looking for a possible replacement dress?
I would start looking now in case you will need alterations done. Since it is almost June, I would just ask for my money back and look for another dress.
Watters is not bankrupt... about 2 months ago there was an issue (fire or something) with one of the dress factories in China. All of the dresses there at the time were destroyed and Watters has since then been playing catch up to restore all of these orders (such as Adela's above). This of course caused a major backup to all of the brides involved, but all recent orders are being sent to other factories and there is no delay issue. No bankruptcy issues are involved. However on a separate note, that involves all China based dress manufacturers... I was told that the recent earthquake could have an impact on the delivery speed of all future dresses. This is not a definite, but considering the state of emergency that country is currently in, it would not suprise me.
Watters brides, don't freak out!
